It's a location in Scott County...much like "Iroquois", "Seneca", and "Shawnee" are in Louisville.

The new high school in our community will pay homage to history.

The original depression-era building located at 2168 Frankfort Road was erected in 1939 and named Great Crossing to honor the one of the first settlements in our community out of respect for the buffalo which crossed Elkhorn Creek nearby. A high school program existed at Great Crossing School until county schools consolidated to form Scott County High School in 1955. Great Crossing continued to serve our community as a school until the opening of Western Elementary in 1993. The original building, pictured here present day, now houses the Scott County Board of Education Central Office.

 

Members of the Scott County Board of Education will consider school mascot and colors in May 2015. The name receiving the second largest number of votes was Georgetown High School followed by Elijah Craig High School. As a stand-alone school, Great Crossing High School will open in Phase I for 700 students, grades 9-12, in August 2017.
