Morgan County won 56-32....weird game

 

 

Actually Morgan never got anyone back from injury...they actually lost a big chunk from last week when they lost their other FB #44 Sophomore Brandon Ward. Ward scored on a 35 yard gallop vs. Estill Co. last week and then reinjured his shoulder shortly after. His season is over and next year is in question. The Cougars not only graduated everybody and the kitchen sink from last year, the Cougars QB Henderson has been hurt all year, but plays (very gritty kid), Buckler is back on offense, earlier this week #63 Mike Paul Fugate injured himself in a car accident but did manage to play nearly ever play on Friday night vs. Lewis County. The Cougars used a 1st year football player in #14 Zach Burton, a 6'1' Senior who may have come close to some rushing records vs. Lewis County. Burton, playing the FB position amassed an incredible amount of yards (well over 200)...I should have the official statistics early this week from the staff. Zach Burton ran very hard and was impressive. #5 Freshman Kyle Havens will have a solid career for the Cougars, the young freshman has played FB and slot for the Cougars. #19 Wes Montgomery made a nice 1 handed grab for a TD vs. Lewis Co. Montgomery has been hampered all year as well with a leg injury.

 

Despite the injuries and few bodies, Morgan's offense has been good enough to produce to positives. Another young Sophomore #30 Jacob Flack has been the teams leading tackler and intercepted his first pass and then took a wild fumble recovery to the endzone for a score. #75 Nathan Cantrell a nice looking Freshman played well at Nose guard along with Charles Gilbert. #10 Tim Foley has been a great addition to the Cougars as well....all in all a very young and battered Cougar football team played much better and with more excitement, not a bad sign for a team reeling from some disappoinint early season losses. Most teams fold the tents and hang it up at this point, this team hasn't.

 

As for the game. Lewis County hounded the Cougars early jumping out to a 24-14 halftime lead. Many thought it would be a shootout and Cougars seemed to struggle early. However, Morgan came out in the 2nd half and put up 42 unanswered points. The Lions got a late score to close the gap.
