Interesting Belfry Stat

Featured Replies

Got bored..something crossed my mind..researched it...:D

Belfry has been quite possibly the most dominant 2A team since dropping down, especially the past 5 seasons. Here's some interesting numbers:

-Since dropping to 2A in 1999 Belfry has went 62-7 against 2A teams. In that time frame they have scored 2,617 points,,, while allowing 730.

-Average score vs. 2A opponent since dropping: 38-11

- In the past five seasons (2002 season-present) the Pirates have went a remarkable 44-2 against 2A competition. During that time frame they have outscored 2A competition 1,859 to 416!

-Average Score since 2002 season vs. 2A: 40-9

-In the past five seasons (only four postseasons can be accounted for) Belfry has made the state semi-finals 3/4 times, won 2/4 State Titles, and Won 4/4 District Titles (undefeated in district play)

-The 2A teams to defeat Belfry are Russell (1X), Breathitt (3X), and Prestonsburg (3X)

-In the past five seasons only Russell and Breathitt defeated Belfry, both teams went on to win the state title game by over 3 times the point margin of their matchup with Belfry.

So before everyone across the state jumps on the Mercer County bandwagon...just consider these stats a little... there is a pretty good team in East KY and Russell probably has numbers that are almost just as impressive!

Impressive stats. Thanks for the info.

Last year Russell defeated Belfry 20-14 (6 points) and went on to defeat Owensboro Catholic 27-14 (13 points). You got it close, but it shot the theory of winning state by more than 3x the score they defeated Belfry. However, I agree with everything else you said.

Belfry has a program second to none kids, discipline, Coaches , staff , facilties ,fans. And Belfry plays real football. Also like the fact Belfry gets ready by playing up - Ironton , etc ...

Downside .. Didn't really like our visit to Vipperman in 2004 ... parked in the road , stood in the mud with people looking for a fight .... While the only stand was filled with more people looking for a fight - somewhat unfair(for a state semi ) to our kids but didn't cost us the game , fumbles did. Likely CAM is different ..

We were much better hosts , we even let you folks bring a banner on our field in 2005 .... lucky this didn't result in a fight , I wonder if Belfry planned that .... Mercer Scotties did the same thing but they likely didn't know better ...

Looking forward to this years game ...

Don't judge the BHS fans by the few you stood around. The vast majority of Belfry's fan base are just good, down home folks who love Belfry Football. Win with class and lose with class. You've got those "let's fight" nuts everywhere.....even at Russell. :D :D

Great post...Mercer fans (and I am one) take notice. Be excited and proud of a work in progress. Be optimistic and enthusiastic, but temper your posts...remember who your audience is. It's like winning a club fight at your local bar and then telling Mike Tyson you're ready to whip his butt.

Our time is likely coming but be respectful of the ones who have waged and won the playoff and championship battles. We haven't yet. But we will.

I'm sure that you would have enjoyed your trip to Vipperman in 2004 if the outcome of the game would have been different..;):D

That is very interesting stats for Belfry. I liked them.

That wagon is pretty empty. Atleast on BGP anyways. Who in their right mind would doubt Belfry? I believe with Mercer being the neighbor of Boyle and Danville (title town) they know what success looks like and we've never even had a whiff of our own. But, they are working very hard to achieve some goals we've only dreamed of in the past. Hats off to the success that Belfry has had though.
