November 16, 20178 yr I'm a big fan of punk music and The Clash are considered by some as the Godfathers of punk. IMO they should be considered the Godfathers of Bubble Gum punk that is popular today. My choice for the one n done song is Career Opportunities an its good tune that really defined the times and what punk was all about. I agree that the Clash is way way overrated as THE PUNK band. My one and only is "Rock The Casbah". My brother bought their greatest hits when we were in High School bc he read the hype in "Rolling Stone. Put that CD in the car and we both just sat there looking at each other dumbfounded. Nothing crazy or anti-establishment at all. Also the Eagles blow. I know that it was supposed to be cool to dig the Clash, and while I gave it a whirl they just never did much for me. Because it was considered somewhat of a legendary show, I did see Joe Strummer live, and it actually turned out to be my only chance because shortly there after he passed away. When it came to early punk, The Sex Pistols were more my speed. Their brand of Brit angst while raw still had elements of style in their groundbreaking way. The early 80's California punk explosion did absolutely nothing for me as it completely lacked any style while it seriously just got on my nerves. I realize that they were going for anti-taste and style, and anti-commercializm, and in that they indeed succeeded.
