North Korea tests nuclear device

Featured Replies

Will China and the UN continue to just slap NK on the hand. China probably, after all NK is not going to attack them. The UN needs to put up or shut up.

NK is becoming a thorn to China's side.

If they go full blown nuclear it means that Japan will start theirs up and has far more money and technology to get it done quickly.

The US is going to have to do some backdoor dealing with China.

The UN is totally useless in this matter.

In 92, NK kicked inspectors out.

In 93 they were going to withdraw from the NPT unless they received the following: end to UN sanctions, one million pounds of grain, half million of fuel oil, and two light water reactors.

Jimmy Carter went over and sweet talked them back to the negotiating table, in which 1994, Clinton bent over and grabbed his ankles...supplying NK with grain to a starving population that is still starving and never received the grain, and a 500,000 of fuel oil, and help with the construction of two light water reactors.

In return NK would freeze all weapons ambitions.

Thank you very much.

Maddy Albright said Kim was "pragmatic and not hostile and that they cheated on teh framework."

Well duh.

Heck of a lot more then Bush did. Kim says he built 4 weapons on Bush's watch while unattended.

LOL

they get the ractors and fuel for the construction of it and it is Bush's fault.

Maybe we can send Jimmah Carter over there.

then again Clinton said he was going to bomb them in 2000 if they had nuke capability.

Might as well send Jimmy over again, Bush seems to be afraid of the guy.

Point blanked called him out. Bush did. Left side of the aisle screamed in horror.

Maddy said he was pragmatic, and not hostile, and he cheated..that is what happens when you bargain with a dictator people.

Nuts...

Called him out?

In the real world, governments don't "call each other out". They work through diplomatic channels, until they are completely exhausted.

Attacking or invading another nation should be the absolute last resort, unless you are willing to bomb a nation back into the stone age.

"Calling out" a man that is a raving lunatic is utter nonsense, and it has clearly not alleviated the problem.

Of course, it does make for a good sound bite.

Mission accomplished.

Where has diplomacy worked with a Madman like Kim Jong?

How is diplomacy going to work with a madman in a country absent of rule of law.

You think the UN is going to be able to do something?

Economic sanctions are not going to work. They have very little economy. Cut off aid? The aid was never reaching the people, it was feeding their armies. Their population is being starved to death.

Yet we had Maddie over their clinking wine glasses saying he was pragmatic and not hostile.

Then he cheated.

Bottom line we are going to have to work with China to resolve this issue.

Work with China?

Why not call them out, and if they don't do what we want, then we can bomb them too?

It sounded like a good policy a minute ago.

We could call out Venezuela (we don't like what they are doing).

We could call out Iran (they are definitely bad guys).

We could call out France (they rarely support us).

We could call out Russia (looks like they have a few Communists hanging around).

We could call out Somalia (now effectively being run as a Muslim theocracy).

We could call out Luxembourg (no reason - we just seem to be on a roll).

Or, we could act like a civilized nation ...

I'm going to have to call you out on that.

Im buying my Big Gulps at Super America now and boycotting 7-11 and Citgo stations.

Some reports are now saying it may have been a dud. MOre like TNT explosion rather than an atomic explosion.

We could call out Venezuela (we don't like what they are doing).

No need to call out the whole country of Venezuela - just Chavez. Chavez deserves it anyway since he 'dissed Bush at the UN. Given the intellectual level of Chavez's comments, I'm thinking a WWF style cage match between Bush and Chavez would be appropriate

We could call out Iran (they are definitely bad guys).

May not be a bad idea except that I think that it's exactly what they want us to do.

We could call out France (they rarely support us).

Not enough of a challege. I figure we could round up a dozen posters on BGP and conquer France in a week. Leatherneck's a former marine and I hear the guru has a gun so let's get them! We can have gametime call battlefield play-by-play and Jim Shue can be our embedded reporter. Hearsay can defend us against any war crimes charges brought against us. I'm not planning on committing any war crimes but it's not really a war unless somebody is accused of war crimes.

We could call out Russia (looks like they have a few Communists hanging around).

Been there. Done that. (Remember Ronald Reagan and the evil empire?)

We could call out Somalia (now effectively being run as a Muslim theocracy).

Somalia is being effectively run? :creepy:

We could call out Luxembourg (no reason - we just seem to be on a roll).

Not a chance. Bush can't find Luxembourg on a map.

Or, we could act like a civilized nation ...

And get back to talking about sex scandels.

We'll only attack the ones that have oil, dontchathink?

Yup. That's why we attacked Afganistan first.
