These ratings aren't worth the paper they are written on. Case in point.

In 4A

44. Whitley Co. 46.5 - Whitley County is 1-7 (0-4 in district and has already lost to South Laurel and Montgomery County, both ranked below them)

45. North Laurel 44.7- North Laurel is 1-2 in district play and has lost to Montgomery who is ranked below them

45. South Laurel 44.7 - South Laurel is 1-3 in district play they beat Whitley on the road who is ranked ahead of them.

47. Montgomery Co. 44.3- Montgomery is 3-1 in district play, including wins over North Laurel and Madison Central on the road as well as beating Whitley County, all ranked ahead of them by Cantrall.

I have said this on very poll that has been posted this year on here. Rankings are only good for discussion on bluegrasspreps.com

Out of curiousity, who did Whitley beat?

Lynn Camp 49 - 20

Whitley also played Bell County to a close game (24-20), so that elevates their rating a bit.

I disagree. Polls and rankings provide some good memories for players who are not fortunate enough to play for a state championship team. Sometimes two highly ranked teams (e.g., Covington Catholic and Highlands) play in the same district. If one of those teams wins the 3A title, most players on the losing team, when asked about their senior season 20 years from now will tell you:

1. They played on the ___ ranked team in the state, but

2. they lost to the eventual state champion, which played in the same district, and they may also make the case that

3. they were the second best team in the state their senior year, based on the close loss in the district title game to the state champ and the team's lofty ranking.

Polls and rankings are fun to discuss, but when the season is over, they also become one of the fond memories for many players. The ultimate reward for a successful season is a series of championship titles, but polls and rankings also provide some meaningful recognition to programs for a successful season.
