Congrats to the Wildcats!!!

 

I don't know what to say about this one. We (Brossart) were outplayed early on, with PCo moving the ball at wil. However, on three occasions they fumbled it away to kill potential touchdown drives.

 

Despite the turnovers Pendleton County scored two touchdowns in the first quarter - a 51 yard drive ending with a 4 yard plunge by Cain Baker and two-point conversion by Jordan Smith. Second score came with 13 ticks left in the period, a 59 yard keeper on a quarterback draw by Jordan Smith. This play haunted us all night. The PAT was no good and PCo had all they would need to cause Brossart to forfeit the "Battle of 27" Traveling Trophy. Brossart failed to reap a single point on those turnovers. We did score mid-second quarter when we marched 55 yards for a score on a Tyler MacDonald one-yard sneak, and when Bryan Duffy split the uprights it was 14-7.

 

The Pendleton County win didn't come without anxious moments. Neither team scored in the third period, played in a COLD, steady rain, featuring fumbles, mis-snaps, and weather-induced sloppy football.

 

Brossart had one final shot at it late in the game, taking over on downs back at the Mustangs 10 year line - 90 yards away from paydirt. A measurement first-down kept the glimmer of hope alive and then a big pass play to Keller McGrath, deep into PCo territory made our chances more realistic. T-Mac connected with Bryan Duffy for the touchdown with about 1:13 to play in the game, BUT an excessive celebration flag against the Mustangs made the PAT a bigger challenge. We fumbled the snap, failed on the scramble, and came up one point short.

 

Brossart's Bradley Moore had a career night, doing a great job moving the football under trying conditions. Bryce Donnelly our top receiving threat was held scoreless, and Pendleton County's Cain Baker was as billed.

 

The curtain drops on the Wildcats season at 4-6, while the Mustangs, who fall to 5-5 on the year, are on the bus next Friday night destined for Raceland.

Nothing against Brossart, but it's always nice to see teams already eliminated from playoff contention come out and play as hard as they can to get a win when there's absolutely nothing on the line. Good job Pendleton County! :thumb:

How many starters did they lose off of last year's team?

PC seniors were not going to be denied. Lead by Jordan Smith and Zach Bevlins and the O-line featuring Reese Roseberry and Ethan White they were constantly gaining 4-6 yards a run. The boys were unhappy with the way the season had turned out and didn't want to finish with another loss.
