October 24, 20178 yr Left Tackle, Joe Thomas, played for 10,363 consecutive offensive snaps since he came into the league as a rookie in 2007. That is a record. It came to an end on Sunday against the Tennessee Titans when he went down with an injury on a run play to his side. Thomas tore his left triceps tendon. It is a season ending injury. He has played through several torn knee ligaments. Suffered a back injury once. Since it was during the last game of the season, he toughed it out for the rest of the game and had surgery in the off-season. His teammates knew when they heard him screaming in pain and clutching his elbow that this was different. It shook them up because Joe Thomas has been indestructible for so long while playing at such a high level. He has been named to the Pro Bowl every year he's been in the league and is considered to be a shoe-in for the Hall of Fame. It is possible that this could be a career-ending injury. Thomas said his plan is to have surgery and then rehab. He said questions about whether he would play again would be better answered in the off-season. Joe Thomas turns 33 in December. The Browns will play on Sunday without Joe Thomas as their starting Left Tackle for the first time since 2006.
October 24, 20178 yr I've always applauded Joe Thomas for sticking it out in Cleveland for all of these years. Have to feel for a guy like that.

Agreed, its a shame a true talent wasted on a crappy team for years, but kuddos to him for staying with the team that drafted him, hoping things would turn around.
October 28, 20178 yr This has to be the one of the most impressive accomplishments (if not THE most impressive accomplishment) of all time in any sport. I wonder if anyone else has even come close to this? To go ten years without missing ONE PLAY is just insane...
October 29, 20178 yr Author This has to be the one of the most impressive accomplishments (if not THE most impressive accomplishment) of all time in any sport. I wonder if anyone else has even come close to this? To go ten years without missing ONE PLAY is just insane... Another pretty impressive "iron man" accomplishment was by Jim Brown. He never missed a game in 9 seasons as a RB who ran the ball 20-30 times a game. He did miss snaps in a game. He also never missed a practice in 9 seasons. Joe Thomas has missed lots of practices preserving his stamina for the games. Jim Brown didn't miss a practice because he didn't want his teammates to know when he was hurt. He didn't want them to wonder if they could count on him during the game. He played every game during the 1962 season with an injured arm--the one he primarily used for stiff-arming the defender. Tremendous pain would shoot down his arm when he used it. It was the only season he did not lead the league in rushing, 1962. Brown was 4th that year with 996 yrds in 14 games. He still played every game and made every practice. Greatest and toughest RB ever.
