Last year, Bardstown won 27-13. Thoughts for this year?

I fixed that for you, as that's a more fair statement. More than 2/3 of the team is freshmen and sophomores, and they graduated 17 seniors last year from a 2-loss team.

Hopefully the young Tigers can bounce back. They will have their hands full again, and for those outside of Bardstown, this also carries an old rivalry. Mark Brown and at least one of his assistants were at Nelson County when they were state champs and Bardstown was REALLY good. It was a heated rivalry between two very good teams back then. I would look for Brown and his Panthers to get some payback from last year's defeat.

None of those players would have beaten Central, but it was an inopportune time to put brand-new starters in on a team that is basically a JV freshmen/sophomore team playing the Central's, Waggener's and E-Town's of the world.

 

Becherer was ejected at Larue Friday night and therefore shouldn't play?

That's a true statement about the youth. Those kids grow up and become juniors and seniors, but right now those kids aren't ready for quality competition on Friday night. They will eventually be real good.

Becherer wasn’t ejected; nor any of their “main” skill players. Etown and LaRue both had one ejected...neither being one that touches the ball much and/or any.

The E-Town player ejected was Kendrick Williams. He's a two way starter and is an impact player. However, I do not think that will effect the outcome and E-Town should come away with the W.

There is a lawyer from E-Town named Mike Coyle who was a hosscat player from E-Town in the 50's and later played at UK. I wonder if he remembers that.

In Brown's 14-1 1996 state title season at Nelson County, the only loss was to Bardstown. Bardstown also consistently scheduled John Hardin during Brown's early years there. I am informed that the coach was not pleased with E-Town's undefeated JV team losing to Bardstown's undefeated JV team last Monday night on their home field, in a game that featured several ejections and quite a bit of mouthing. My guess is that if he has the chance to keep scoring he will do so.

Back to the point of this thread, the Panthers should handle the Tigers easily. I am not sure why Bardstown has fallen on tough times football wise. They did defeat both Nelson County and Thomas Nelson this season. I guess the football talent is spread too thin locally.

The Tigers had a great season last year, but had 18 seniors, most of which were starters, and did not have to play a lot of kids both ways. The current senior class has 10 players whom have played very little, and the junior class has just 4 kids. Its just one of those anomaly periods at a school where you don't get as many players. The sophomore and freshmen classes are large and are cutting their teeth, but will be there in a year or so.
