We hear that alot because our kids are so much bigger and stronger than most other middle school teams. I think its a way for other teams, parents, etc. to rationalize why they are not winning so not to accept they are not as good or have a program as complete from K-12. Its alot easier to say "they are hold backs" than "they are better and get better individual training".

 

What they dont see is the wrestling, weight lifting, plymetric training, etc. that these kids get in elementary and middle school levels. Like I said before, most of our kids are underclassmen this year. Even if they were held back they would still be younger than a normal senior and are still winning in dominate fashion. A similar program that we usually split with at all levels and play quite a bit is Belfry. They have similar sized kids with similar strength etc. They have several middle school state championships as well (JC plays D3 middle school, Belfry D2) and both have translated since the KYMSFA started state playoffs 10 years ago.

 

I wonder if Belfry hears the same kind of rumors. Its always a good game when JC and Belfry meet at any level and both fan bases have lots of respect for one another.

 

I get the work ethic, I get the grind. Like I said if a kid falls under the right age gap it's not illegal. Just curious how wide spread it was. I heard it was more of a southern thing than northern in ky.

I agree. An athlete is an athlete and will compete no matter the age. My kid played on numerous all star teams during his middle school career. He said from conversations with his teammates that there were numerous holdbacks. Again not making a mountain out of a mole hill. I know it happens and who some of the more prevelant areas are who do this. I think by the time they reach jr to seniors it's a non issue. Definitely makes a difference in 6th, 7th and 8th.

No surprise to see most of their better players also listed in the state wrestling rankings. High School and Middle School.

JC is not unbeatable!!

The teams they have demolished have been bad teams. JC has beaten some good teams thus far, Capital (WV), South Charleston (WV), and Henry Clay.

 

JC will be have one more blowout victory before the level of competition turns up with Ashland on the road and then Belfry on the road, a game i suspect they will lose.

 

If JC were in any other class this year besides 1A, I would suspect they would be middle of the pack.

Only commitment I know of currently is OT Ethan Bingham who will play for Marshall University. Sophomore Devin Johnson has gotten attention from all across the country, he plays DE/LB and RB.

2. Devin Johnson has big time interest as a sophomore, visited Clemson this weekend and vandy is next week

3. Marcus Wells (state shot put champ) has looks from EKU and smaller schools like union and Upike

4. Dawson Stalker getting looked at by Cincy and Marshall

5. Ryley Preece is being looked at as a DB by a few small schools (sophomore)

6. Evan Adkins getting NAIA looks at TE and OLB.

 

There will be more from this team get looks as they develop. Very young.

 

Not to mention Joe Jackson and his many offers. Still just a junior too.

Completely agree. No one is unbeatable by someone. JC is not as good as last year but will still be very difficult to beat in 4A.

 

I would not be shocked to see Belfry beat them by 2 plus scores or to see them lose in semistate or beyond.

 

Those are the only places I see a potential loss occurring however.

Creek and Douglass aren’t much either

Outside of Belfry, there's not a lot of competition left.. 4A is as down as any class I've seen in a long time. Your #2 thru 5 teams would be lucky to be in the Top 10 in normal years and most would be in the bottom half of the Top 10, if that good, in any other class..
