Football Officials Responsibilities

Featured Replies

That's a fact. I believe all coaches on the HS level including Freshman, JV, and Varsity need to attend a rules clinic before the season starts. All Varsity coaches must attend but they should bring their entire staff along.

Attending a two hour clinic doesn't do anything toward knowing rules.

IMO, coaches should be tested the same as officials.

They (coaches) may or may not test out well, but as I am sure you are aware taking a test and live play and making calls are like night and day.

BTW I think some of the best pure football for the game that it is is played in the mountains.

I was at the South Laurel vs. Whitley County game this past friday and those refs were horrible , they need to learn how to ref.

Very informative post. Is there a shortage of high school refs? If so, what is the pay and how does one look into becoming a HS ref in Ky? I know several young people who played HS ball and may be interested.

Shifting gears, I have said that the first honest football fan I meet will be the fan who says, leaving a game: We would never have won this game except that the ref really blew a call, and it cost our opponent the game.:D

Pay is different for most associations We have 65.00 for Varsity, 65.00 for middle school (2 games short quarters), 40 for j.v. and freshman and 25-35 for pop warner approx 6-8 games per week
