Boone County is 1-2 coming off their first win a 27-6 victory over Holmes.

 

Do the Rebels have shot to contain the Dragons?

Great to see the Dragons take care of business with their County rivals. I know they have been working on getting the passing game back together and it was much more successful this time week.

In what was supposed to be a strength with their wing backs returning (who both were very good in the passing game) and one WR returning has changed. South has two new wing backs now. So the passing game has three new players, all sophomores. Its going to take a little bit to get the passing game back on track this year. Coach Reed has the running game going. With what we saw at the game this past week the passing game took a step forward. Will be great to have the balanced attack again.

Last year these teams played a fairly even game until into the fourth quarter. S. Oldham led at the half 10-8. It was 20-14 pretty late in the game and then S. Oldham got two quick scores to make it 35-14 for the final.

 

Reports were that it was a hard hitting game last year with both teams fighting hard.

@FootballBobcat, how would you compare this year's Dragons team compared to the 2016 Dragons?

 

This year's Rebels are an inexperienced team compared to last year's senior-laden team. The defense returns 3 players that played in last year's game. One of them had 17 tackles. Only the TE and one lineman had significant playing time for the offense. So this is quite a different Rebel football team than the one that played last year. So inexperienced is probably the best way to relate it to last year's team.

 

The Rebels are still in the process of finding what will work best for them on offense. The passing game is developing to provide better balance for them than in their first two games. Boone Co finally was able to establish a balanced attack and more creativity in the play calling against Holmes H.S.

Is this game at Boone co? If so I may have to make this the game I go to this week.

The game last season was very physical. Tough game for both sides.

This years Dragons on offense are not as explosive as last years at this point. The OLine last season had some monsters who opened some big holes. Right now the OLine is getting better. Sr Colin Armstrong is back at LT after missing the first two games. Jr Zach Mason missed his sophomore year (and the first two games this year) but is now back and started at RG. The line now has more depth and will continue to improve. The running game is solid. The passing game is improving with the new wing backs and new WR. Good offense but not hitting home runs as often as last year at this point.

I think the defense is better than last year. Front four are more athletic and quicker. The back seven returned 5 starters and the new DB, So JT Benson, is playing extremely well. The MLB, Jr Mason Bowman, looks very good. These guys play disciplined football and I believe more aggressive than last seasons defense.

 

And the game is at Boone Co this week.

This game should be another physical one. Boone is always tough no matter how their season is going. Coach Thompson beat up on us in two scrimmages when we first took this job, before going to coach College ball. They are running a wing back scheme now that allows both the power game and finesse. They teach old school football (like us!) with a stress on fundamentals and toughness. The Dragons have lacked punch in the 1st 3 games of the season on offense. We have a bunch of things to iron out. We try to establish a team (family) concept in all facets of our program, and our kids have bought in. Hopefully it just a matter of time before we can hit some explosive plays. We always love coming to NKY for football because their fans are always passionate about their teams. Met a elderly fan two years ago that had been coming to games since he was a young boy. I cant remember his age, but he was giving us a hard time when we got off the bus. Y'all come on out, it should be a very competitive HS ball game.

I believe South has their way with the once formidable Rebels. South's QB and supporting cast are too much. If he had stayed at Trinity, he may be going for his second ring as a starter.

Does Boone Co broadcast their games? Please provide a link if they do.

No they do not but if you're at the game I guarantee you'll hear me all the way across to the visitor's sideline and then you'll catch the echo when the sound waves bounce back off Meijer's, LA Fitness, and Home Depot across the freeway.

 

It's going to be a beautiful night for football.
