I think it has been hit on previously. They lost a bunch last year, and are very young. Should be no surprise that they are where they are. They need to continue to work hard and trust the process. Obviously the coaching staff is still trying to figure out the formula for his group. Spencer should help stop the run this week.

 

Exactly!! One down season does not indicate the team in down forever. Cooper has done just fine over the last 5 years so this downturn was obviously coming and youth has caught up with them but this season will be a experience and character builder for what has to be one of the youngest teams in NKY if not the state. There are only 12 seniors I believe on this years team and probably 1/2 of them have not played any significant varsity minutes until this season so the 0-4 start is not surprising.

 

There is talent on this team, just young, and I believe this staff will get the most out of this team this year and be strong again over the next couple of years. Just 5 year's ago they played for a state championship, 3 years ago they were in the final 4, 2 years ago they were within 1 point of winning a regional title vs. SK, there are a lot of teams that would love to have that record. Cooper is down not out.

Middle School/youth football is not a great predictor of high school success. Things change...sometimes they get better, sometimes they get worse.

Over the last 5 years which has included a significant, and in some year's core, amount of Cooper's MS players has produced a state runner-up title, a state semi-final runner up, 2 regional titles and 3 district titles. I'm not saying they are doing anything wrong, or that youth/middle school programs aren't important. They obviously are, and it's very hard if not impossible, for high school teams to be successful without a youth/middle school program. Just making the comment that success at the youth level doesn't always translate to the high school level. And lack of success at the youth/middle school level doesn't doom you for failure.

I didn't take offense to your comment and in many cases you are correct. I was just saying that in Cooper's case it has help that the MS players are learning the base systems of the high school program before becoming a freshman. You're correct in that it doesn't help in all cases.

Walters - just selected basketball, and I believe baseball, over football but certainly would have been a huge lift to the QB position.

 

Milburn - is now at Ryle

McGinnis and his brother both enrolled at CC as freshmen

Burch - I believe was injured as a freshman and did not return to the program

Schertler - Is now at Dayton
