Both teams come into this matchup 2-1. Mercer County suffered a two point loss to 5A Anderson County, while a Garrard County won over Lincoln County. Who wins this week?

When is the last time these teams played? Should be a contrast of styles. If Mercer tries to line up and run against them this will be a Garrard win. Will be interesting to see if Mercer opens up the offense. If they do I think Mercer has too many athletes/playmakers for Garrard. Mercer has to be able to get off the field on defense also.

Last meeting was in 2006. Mercer won 49-0. Mercer has won 10 of the last 12 and leads the all-time series 13-8. The series has been played sparingly throughout the years, with games from 1964-67, 1981-87, and 1997-2006. Fourteen of the 21 games between Garrard and Mercer have been district games. On the flip side, Garrard played Harrodsburg every season from 1964-96, and then once more in 2005. 25 of those games were district contests.

I remember when Harrodsburg and Garrard played every year. I seem to recall a big Lions win when Wilbur Dunn and company beat Gus Parks and company in 1978.

They played every year until Garrard went to AA in 1997. There was only one meeting after that. The 1978 win was in double overtime, I do believe.

I'm not sure why the Garrard/Mercer playing record has been so spotty. Travel isn't far, both teams have typically been good and bad but never that far ahead of each other, and they always played in basketball.
