Not overly impressed with either team

 

Very impressed with the Defenses.. both Offenses come across as very flawed. Both are well coached and very good at getting to the ball.

 

Alcoa can't throw the ball and Corbin doesn't really have a vertical passing threat.

 

I have said all Off-Season that AJ Moore would be a big hole to fill along with the two RB's they lost. Estep and Maquet are both natural receivers that they are trying to use as HB's. Moore was Sizemore's security blanket. Anytime Corbin needed a deep ball or a shot to the sideline they could throw it to Moore and he would go get it.

 

Alcoa doesn't have the size or the talent at RB I was expecting to see. Corbin is making it hard on them with their ability to collapse into gaps, but outside of the QB I havent seen a back with a real good explosion or ability to break an initial tackle.

Funny you say that but I watched him closely a few plays and I thought he was slow and stiff

 

He's had no less than 3 tackle for losses including a pair of huge stops when Corbin was trying misdirection.

Maybe he took a few plays off when I watched him. He's a big dude thats why I keyed in on him. He just doesn't look quick.

He's not as quick as his frame would make you think.. he has the build of a D-1 edge rush DE but not the edge speed... but he has done a very good job of overpowering and discarding blockers. Seems to do a good job of reading plays.

Their lack of vertical passing game is a big issue for them and by far their biggest weakness.

What I do love about Corbin is how they take angles in the open field and make tackles.

 

You can tell Alcoa is not used to have their guys on the edge and the Defense making a stop.
