Mississippi Police Raid Wrong Home, Kill Occupant

Featured Replies

I would as well. But again, I'm turning on every light I can and making dang sure who is at the door before opening it.

That's a fair point.

Looking at the picture of his home in the article, I'm not seeing any outside lights. They very well may be there, but I'm not immediately seeing any like you do at most homes.

If someone is knocking on your door at 11:30PM and it worries you enough to get your gun and dog, would you not turn on lights inside and out? Also would you not verify who the heck is at the door before you open it?

If this guy went to the door, not lights on, opened it and let his dog loose, then his dog being shot is on him.

Turning the lights on inside would head in your ability to see anything outside.

You assume he had an outside light to turn on. I dont see one in the picture of the house in the article, but it is from far away. (our house doesnt have an outside light by the front door, only outside the garage. You could stand on our front porch and not be lighted.

So ask who it is, if they say the cops, call 911 and verify it is in fact the police. Why would you open your door in the pitch black...gun or no gun, dog or no dog.
He greeted them with a gun, after they shot his dog.

After his dog, allegedly, ran toward them aggressively.

Does the law allow people to use deadly force to shoot a person to protect their animal?

In the article posted in post #1, it says that the gun was found on the couch and that it wasn't on him when he answered the door...

That doesnt mean someone didnt move it. And where did that info come from?

Why are we assuming he had a gun on him?

We aren't. I said in my post i was only going off info provided thus far

Does that occur at 11:30 at night?

Also what about all the warning signs that there was a dog on the property?

Serious question though, if someone is trespassing on your property, do you have a right to turn your dog loose on them?

It isn't trespassing to knock on someone's door.

Someone knocks on your door at 11:30 at night. You go to the door with a gun and your dog. You open the door and your dog runs out and whoever is outside fires a gun. You aren't raising your gun?

And yes they royally screwed up. They served a warrant at 11:30 pm at night to the wrong house and an innocent man ended up dead. What else would you call that?

Believe it or not, police work 24 hours a day. Serving warrants is part of their job. Sometimes they knock on the wrong door. Should they let someone shoot them because they knocked on the wrong door?

Why do you think he was trying to shoot them?

I didnt say he was.

Do you know he wasn't going to?

Yea... who provided the info...

Yea... who provided the info...

His family.

Who provided the info that he did have a gun?

I didnt say he was.

Do you know he wasn't going to?

Nope.

All I know for certain is that if the cops had done their job properly, an innocent man wouldn't be dead.

Nope.

We know they knocked on the wrong door.

We dont really know what exactly happened after that. I do know that police knock on the wrong door a lot... they've knocked on my door looking for a different address. I didn't get shot...
