Go Pandas beat the Bluebirds in Soccer.... What did you think I was talking about.... This just might be the best match up in regular season for the entire Commonwealth. The last two years the team that won the Regional game between these two, won the State Championship......and BTW NDA revenged their only loss to LexCath the other day.....

Good game. The team from Park Hills wins 1-0. Looks like the road to Georgetown runs down Dixie Hwy.

The winner of Region 10 will be in Georgetown without a doubt.

Notre Dame Tops No.1 Highlands From the Cin Enquirer

 

The last two times Highlands (10-1-2) and Notre Dame (12-1-2) met in girls' soccer, the game ended with Highlands winning 1-0.

The two teams squared off Saturday at Xavier University in a home game for the Pandas, and the score was the same, 1-0, only second-ranked Notre Dame came out on top over the top-ranked Bluebirds.

Having the teams ranked 1-2 in Northern Kentucky was secondary.

Real nice article about the match and considering all the football related games both high school and college going on Saturday, the Cincinnati Enquirer did a great job on covering the two best high school soccer teams in Kentucky. They will meet again for the region 10 title and whoever wins that match up will be favored to win the State Title and that would be three years in a row that either NDA or the team from Ft. Thomas won the State Championship....

Yeah, you're right. It could have gone either way. But with the extra time that the "nice" referee gave the girls while they in front of the Birds goalie box, it sure did help the Pandas. (The time had expired on the scoreboard clock.) But obviously the ref had more time on his watch!!!

Sorry cshs81 there is no "stoppage time" or "extra time" allowed per NFHS rules. FIFA rules do allow for it and some club soccer rules allow for it, but there is not any in KY high school soccer. Either the referee is in charge of the official time or the scorekeeper. Play is allowed to be stopped for a penalty kick, a cautioning(yellow card), a disqualification(red card), scoring of a goal, or a serious injury. NFHS rule 7-4-1. In this case the referee did have jurisdiction as the time on his clock was the official time rather than the scoreboard, but there is no allowance for "stoppage" or "extra" time.

But you cannot stop the game in the middle of an attack is that correct?

 

BTW, 3 of the top 5 teams in the state reside in the same region. Notre Dame, Highlands, and NewCath, at 2,3, and 5 respectively. Also Bishop Brossart is ranked 21 right now. Loaded region anyone?

In KY high school rules, the clock only stops for the events I mentioned. Time is not added on for anything, nor does it matter where the ball is on the field. Region 10 is the most complete in the state. The fifth or sixth best team in the 10th region could win some of the other regions around the state. Region 8 is the only other region that has near the quality that region 10 has. FIFA allows for added time because the clock runs through all of the aforementioned stoppages that occur in KY high school soccer. This is all covered under rule 7 in the NFHS rulebook. I agree with you that I would like for the clock not to be blind to the action on the field and do not like the idea that the final whistle can blow during the middle of a scoring opportunity or a cornerkick/freekick. But the rules are not written that way.
