Highly doubt this has anything to do with the waterpump repair unless they did not tighten a ground wire. Also , he could not have done anything wrong by clearing a trouble code.

Unplugging the battery may reset the computer but it will not solve the problem that is causing the messages. More than likely the problem will return.

 

Agree with @punttheball, this may only clear all the codes, but if the lights come on again, it means their is more than likely a real issue. Owning multiple GM vehicles this seems to me the go too starting point. I have had this same issue in my 04 Grand Am and its the damn sensor behind the ignition switch that says the key for my car is not really the key for my car and locks everything down.

I get glitches all the time in 03 Escalade. Just the other day the brake system warning light came on twice while driving. Got home, put the tester on to see if there were any codes, no codes. Hasn't happened since.

As someone else mentioned it could be as simple as a ground issue, although there are probably a lot of grounds on that vehicle to check. I had a similar problem with a Jeep Grand Cherokee though and I couldn't figure it out at all. A friend of mine who is a diesel mechanic came by to take a look at it and it turned out to be a bad battery cable hah. It wasn't corroded anywhere that you could see visually, but by using a voltmeter he was able to figure it out in about 5 minutes. He started sawing the battery cable off several inches behind the terminal connector then told me lets to get you a new terminal connector. A good friend and a $2 connector fixed my problem. To be honest I thought the computer was bad which would have been a really expensive fix. I'm sure my issue is a rare one, but it's worth having someone look at. With electrical stuff in cars there seem to be a ton of things that can go wrong and most are hard to pinpoint.

This will evidently often solve a "check engine light problem".

 

We were coming back from Louisville and at the bottom of the Kentucky River hill on I64 there was a thump, tach went up about 500RPM and the little orange wrench light came on (Ford Fusion). Got home okay with some loss of throttle.

 

Found a discussion board the next morning that said "turn the key so all the idiot lights come on, leave it there for 30 seconds, then start". Worked like a charm.

 

I believe that Plantmanky is talking about the Passlock relearn procedure. The Passlock security system is unique to GM vehicles of that late 90's and early 2000's. It was a very troublesome system to say the least. The key had a computer chip in it and there was also a sensor in the key switch.

I've been driving a 98 Caddy Deville Concours that belongs to my father. Today, out of the blue, on the trip from Bardstown up north, the "Service Air Bag" indicator came on, followed by the anti-theft warning (car may not restart). Happened for about the past 12 miles or so of the trip.

 

After that, I couldn't turn the bright lights on, the stereo and heater went off then came back on. Every couple minutes all the light indicators behind the transmission indicator (whether you are in P, R, N, D, 3, 2, 1) all start blinking on and off a few times.

 

Would drive fine for a couple minutes, then the "Service Air Bag" indicator would pop up again, and the stereo and heat would go off and come back on.

 

Any idea how to disable this warning? It seems like it is causing the rest of the computer system to go haywire. It did this once about a week and a half ago, but not since then. Dad seems to think disconnecting it from the battery should reset it all, but I'm not so sure. If the air bag has gone bad, it'll just keep on happening.
