What does Oldham County need to do to improve in 2017? What do they need to keep doing to be successful? Remember, please be constructive.

In my opinion, they have to change the mindset of the players. Coach Fox already has it going in the right directions. OC has the potential to be very explosive on offense this year. Lucas Jones, Zach Young, & Chase Sample will be on everyone's radar when they play them.

A new mindset is a definite must. OC must return to the attitude the Colonels played with from the late 1990s through the first decade of the 2000s, when the Colonels were frequent top-10 flyers.

 

Change seems to be coming....Mike Shatzer struggled to get the wins, but he did a good job of rebuilding the numbers, nearly doubling the roster size in his three seasons. Last year's team roster was dominated by sophomores and freshmen, and Mike Fox will get to work with a young crop of talent that is showing promise.

 

Lucas Jones showed a lot of promise last year as a sophomore running back...he only rushed for 194 total yards, but averaged 5.5 yards per carry in 35 and showed real explosiveness and drive.

 

Erix Edwards passed for over 1,100 yards and 12 TDs while not always having much time to throw....he completed over 50% of his passes and could be poised for a real breakout season with the likes of Zach Young and Chase Samples catching passes.

 

Defensively, Jacob Ratliff, last year's top tackler (79 tackles) and opportunistic all-around "ball hog" (3 picks and 1 fumble recovery) returns at DB.

 

The reality, however, is that some of the biggest names this year for Oldham may well be the juniors and sophomores who were largely biding their time last season. We'll see.

 

Oldham, which struggled to find wins last year against a brutal schedule, downgraded the schedule a tad this year. Probably a good idea - it gives the Colonels a chance to rebuild the program's confidence a bit, get some wins, and gain momentum. The feeling was that last year's team probably was a little better than their final record...

 

Pegasus will once again cover the Colonels...high definition internet video broadcasts will be broadcast for at least the following five regular season games, plus some playoff games if the Colonels advance:

I know they scrimmage at Shelby on the 11th.
