1966 NBA All-Star Game MVP UK and Cincinnati Royal Adrian Smith

Featured Replies

Adrian Smith's only All-Star game appearance was in 1966 and he won the MVP and a car.

"Odie" A Western Kentucky boy from Farmington (Graves County.) I couldn't find how many years he played high school ball, but his senior year was the only time the school had a winning record (15-13) and made the region tournament (losing a first round game to Paducah Tilghman) while he was in high school.

That is a neat story; thanks for posting Frank!

I attended Farmington High School when I was in elementary school (the school had grades 1-12). I walked past his jersey in the trophy case every day. By the way, the mascot for Farmington is ... the Wildcats. Almost prophetic :)

Thanks for posting.

I worked at 5/3 years ago and Adrian Smith worked there as well. I did not know him well but did talk to him from time to time...very nice guy and never talked about his basketball days unless you brought it up. Anyway, one day in a sales meeting somebody got out a tape of the 1966 NBA All-star game and showed it to the whole room...50-100 people in the room. He was the MVP of the game, which I did not know until that day. Check out the other guys on his team that day: Wilt, Oscar, Russell, Havlicek, Willis Reed, Jerry Lucas, Hal Greer, Sam Jones, Chet Walker...and Odie won the MVP of the game! He had 24 points and 8 boards. When I knew him, he was in his late 50's to early 60's and he did not walk the greatest. Seeing him flying up and down the court in that game and on this tape was really cool...

OOPS...I thought I was posting this in the Royals-Celtics 1966 playoff game thread...missed that this one had started...

While watching the Eastern Semi's video it was obvious he was able to reach another gear.
