Lloyd 64 Highlands 46

Featured Replies

No finfrock tonight. Lloyd had a 5pt lead goin into the 4th.

Good win for Lloyd.

I think this result supports Walter having moved Lloyd above Highlands in his latest poll.

How? Highlands was without one of the best big men in the 9th. An there best player.

It's not like Lloyd won by a couple of baskets, the score also makes it look like it was a convincing win.

I am also of the belief that this is a team sport, if you are shorthanded, others need to step up. A perfect example of this has been on display at CCH and Cooper this season.

It was a 5pt game goin into the 4th. So if you take a teams best player out it won't make a difference? Cooper and covcath has 10 deep on there team Highlands don't. Don't think you can compare them. Lloyd won good win. But game goes either way if finfrock plays.

Aside from this win the Juggs recently had rather close games with Dixie and NewCath, while Highlands recently didn't do so well against either of these teams, losing to both by a significant bunch.

Aside from Lloyd winning this one head-to-head, would you agree that their recent results with these common opponents also stand for something?

No doubt that Finfrock makes the Birds a better team, but I suppose that we'll never know how things would've gone with him...

...and while we're talking about him, why didn't he play tonight. and if possibly related to an injury, will he be back in action anytime soon?

FWIW...Finfrock only had 6 pts, 4 rbs the first time these two met.

Lloyd wins this game with or without him playing...IMO, of course.

Maybe... maybe not... we'll never know.

Your right your opinion. Well it's 1-1 on the year not like Highlands didn't beat them. And I believe the game could've went either way. Glad we all got one. Good team in Lloyd. Just know our horse didn't play regardless of stats.

Were you there? I am guessing not and if you do not think Finfrock makes a BIG BIG difference in this game you are sadly mistaken.

Finrock did not play, I get that he makes the Birds better.

The one thing I am certain of... We will never know if he would have made enough of a difference to change the outcome of tonight's game.

Why so defensive all the time?

I simply stated IMO (opinion being the key word) I think Lloyd wins tonight regardless. They are playing much better lately and it has been reflected not only in scores against common opponents but also tonight's game.

Finfrock no doubt make a difference but 6 pts, 4 rbs wasn't a game changer for the Birds in the first meeting. It was Posey having 23 that carried them. If you want to hang on to a December 22nd win to argue you're the better team, fine, but at the end of the day Lloyd won by 18 tonight, regardless of who did or didn't play.

Knowing Coach Key and Coach L, they are both more focused on getting to the region tournament than who wins this game.

Highlands (12-14 overall) could not take down the Juggernauts (18-10) for the second time this season. The Bluebirds fell to 9-7 in 9th Region play as a result.

The coaching staff elected not to play senior 6-foot-5-inch post Kyle Finfrock, who sprained his left hand in the win over Ludlow on Monday. Seven different Bluebirds scored led by 10 from Braden Posey and junior Carl Schoellman made 3-of-7 three-point tries for nine points.

Lloyd Memorial saw nine different players score. Senior forward Sterling Hamilton finished with a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Juggernauts. Junior forward Jordan Fann followed with nine points.

Lloyd led just 35-30 entering the fourth quarter. But the Juggernauts pulled away with a 29-16 fourth quarter.

"Sterling is a fantastic player," said Kevin Listerman, Highlands Head Coach. "We didn't do a bad job on him. He was a force in other ways. We knew that coming in he was going to be a tough match-up for us. We did a good job on their other people. He was certainly the best player on the floor (Friday) and he played like it. We just had a tough time handling him. He got a lot of it in the second half, especially when they made their run and blew the game open there early in the fourth quarter."

Lloyd Memorial made 26-of-51 shots for 51 percent including 5-of-17 three-point tries for 29 percent and 7-of-8 free throws for 88 percent. Highlands made 16-of-48 shots for 33 percent including 8-of-22 three-point tries for 36 percent and 6-of-10 free throws for 60 percent.

The Juggernauts won the rebounding battle, 34-28. Senior Mogan Race led the Bluebirds with eight rebounds.

"We got some pretty good looks. We just didn't stick them," Listerman said. "Our offensive rebounding was down a little bit. But the effort we got out of Morgan Race was fantastic. We got really good minutes out of (sophomore) Ben (Sisson), (freshman) Isaac (Salter) and our young guys there inside so they got an opportunity to play and they got a really good taste of what it's going to take for us to be tough down the stretch. Certainly, we missed Kyle. It's a chance to help us grow and hopefully make us better before we get to the district tournament."

Highlands faces Covington Holy Cross (6-16) on Monday. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
