Mayfield 57 Union County 12

Featured Replies

Score was 50 - 12 Mayfield at the half. Mayfield switched offense and defense early in the 3rd quarter. Mayfield's defense had a slow start allowing #23 from Union county (Forrester?) to score a big run for a TD and then stepped it up after that, with the defense scoring 2 TD's themselves on a couple of fumbles.

Nice win Mayfield! I listen to the wrap up show on streaming radio!

If any of the mayfield fans wnat to listen to any of the Danville games here

is the link!http://www.hometownlive.net/

Yeah I caught the post game show, too. I haven't heard anybody else in high school broadcasts do their highlight reel like they do... I wonder what they use to do that... Can't be recorded on Cd aand played back, I wouldn't think, but it's neat to know that if i miss the game, I can still hear the highlites.

He is going to be a powerful weapon against Paducah Tilghman next Friday. :thumb:

Very impressive win for the Cards...It appeared Union Co was going to go toe to toe in the 1st qtr and then Mayfield exploded for 34 pts in the 2nd quarter and all of a sudden, the defense started playing like they were capable of..Coach Morris moved some players around and all of a sudden..BOOM, they were controlling the line, stunting well, pursuing well, gang tackling, etc.. Moving OT-Shelton to a DT worked very well..The Cards offense looked great, just wish they would be a little more consistent from week to week. I really feel, though, that when they get into 1a play and get Landon Heath back in the trenches, this could be a very dangerous team come playoff time..

Another disappointing showing by the erractic Braves against a good but not great Mayfield team.

I think you may be short changing the Cardinals..They've been inconsistent at times, but this team has great potential and upside..Don't be surprised if they're still standing the 1st week in December...I still believe the Braves have enough talent to make the 3a playoffs this year..They should beat Calloway and Hopkins Central and could upset a young Tilghman team..

I think that the return of Andy Trevarthen is going to make a HUGE difference to this team, he is Mayfields key back and can play some defense as well. He is going to provide the team with some key position relief and is going to add another dimension to an already potent offense. This Mayfield team is really hard to read, they are up one week, then down the next. It is hard to call this Mayfield team "Great" until they are more consistent, but you have to give them credit, they weren't expected to do very well this year and 1A is shaping up to be much different than last year, could be a lot more interesting this year for the cards than last. :thumb:

I agree...the return of Trevarthan in a few weeks along with Heath will be a huge addition to the Cards...and the experience that Murrell and the other younger players are getting is invaluable. The Cards, barring another injury, should be poised to make another deep run into the playoffs. But alot of football to be played between now and then. But if the Cards can shore up their defense with the return of Heath and Trevarthan to go along with the offense these Cards will be fun to watch going down the stretch. If the Cards can get a win over their arch-rival Paducah Tilghman this coming Friday then they should be able to put together a nice winning streak to end the season.

Go Cards...

Mayfield had 440 yds in the first half...That is good no matter who you are playing! I love watching these Cards...no attitudes or quit!!! The only thing I am puzzled by is why aren't we getting any pressure on the QB? I think we have one sack for the year, that is not a Coach Lawson "D" typically...

Caleb Grasicia is turning out to be a nice end for the Cardinals....I concure that Heath and Trevarthen make the Cards even better!

Union Co back #23 had some jets on him though, should be a doozey this weekend against PTHS!

You're right, Mayfields offense has done well no matter what style we are running. It seems like on defense nobody is wanting to make the committment to go after someone, everybody is sitting back and waiting to make the tackle. They were letting the back for Union county string us out and it seemed like everybody wanted to make the tackle and nobody wanted to step in and keep him inside and kept giving him the outside and then that all changed after he made the couple of big runs.
