Dixie 35 Scott 0

I agree with yours and Nees assesments totally. And I agree that the kid got pushed into Maloney and should not have been called for a penalty on the punt return. But it was a live ball and Scott should have gotten it as it clearly made contact with a Dixie player in my eyes.

I was standing right there on the sideline on that punt, and I didn't think that the ball ever hit a Dixie player. It was close, but it looked to me to hit the turf and took a bounce. Honestly, I thought the worst call of that game was the one where the Scott punt that was mishandled by the Dixie returner on the 2 or 3 yard line and went into the endzone. He went back and got it and barely got out the endzone, but after the play was over, the refs got together and called it a touchback due to the ball going into the endzone. I thought it should have Dixie's ball deep in their territory instead of at the 20.

I was not overly impressed with Dixie's offense, but the defense looked real good. The QB for Scott had to be incredibly sore this past weekend with the number of hits he took in the pocket, and I think either #20 or #34 hit him everytime he dropped back to pass. I was told at halftime that Scott had -2 yards.

Speaking of concession stand, that has got to be one of the best in NKY. Chicken fingers, fries, corn on the cob, baked potatoes, etc. I couldn't believe my eyes at the different kinds of food I saw.

Yeah not to mention the COLD RUBBER CHEESEBURGERS

Actually I had a chance to talk to the white hat from this game, and after hearing him explain what the rule book says, I believe now they they were good calls with the exception of the punt THAT DID HIT THE DIXIE returner (film shows this) However, if an offensive player hits the return man regardless if he is knocked into him, it is handled as a fair catch situation. He did admit that they missed the block in the back call on that punt. All other calls were legitimate. The punt that went into the endzone and run out was in fact called according to the rules. regardless if a player touches the ball or not, if their is no possession established and the ball crosses the goal line on a punt is then BY RULE a dead ball. My apologies to the zebras.:thumb:

What's the ruling in high school calling the player out on the infraction? I didn't think at the high school level you could say the player's number.

As for film showing it hit the Dixie player, which player did it hit? Did it hit the return man (Maloney) or one of his blockers?

There is no such rule against it. As more HS stadiums employ a mic on the referee you'll hear much more communication from the officials. Welcome to the big time.

Thanks!! I was curious about that as it was just implemented at the college level. :thumb:

Hit the return man right where the foot and ankle meet
