Didn't president Obama write books ? Was there a scandal surronding that ? I'm confused ?

 

Why would this be a big deal? Like LB said, Obama wrote 2 books pre-Presidency that grossed almost $6M so far. Was anybody worried about this when he became President?

 

Yes he did write books. The question was what if some group suddenly bought a large amount of them after he became president? Would that count as profiting off of his presidency, like some gave mentioned he would be doing if someone stayed at his hotels and they were connected with a group trying to curry favor.

You could go on and on looking for ways in which people profited off of the presidency. I really don't think it's much of an issue, never really heard anything about it before now. Also it isn't just limited to presidents. Michelle Obama published books while her husband was in office. I think it goes without saying that she obviously sold way more copies than she would have if her husband had not been president. The reality is that the POTUS and First Lady are two of the more recognizable people in the entire world. I image that very few people in that situation would capitalize on that fact to make some amount of money.

There are only so many books in print; only so much money to be spent. I really think this is a non-issue.

I find it funny that people are concerned with a president who is already a billionaire profiting by the office when he has turned down the 400,000.00 salary. Really is that fear rational or just a smear attempt. The one that would have abused the office lost and is closing part of their charity down due to the sudden lack of contributions. What basis is this fear grounded in besides projection?
