What does Warren Central need to do to improve in 2017? What do they need to keep doing to be successful? Remember, please be constructive.

First thing is to make it to next season with the same head coach in place. I have no reason to believe a change would be made, but this is a friendly reminder that as of this date in each of the last two years the incumbent head coach was still in place, only to be later fired. Last year, of course, that stretched into May, so we may not be able to say for certain until then. But if they do that, the first and perhaps most crucial building block will be in place - stability (and continuity).

 

Second thing is to continue to recruit the hallways and maintain the players they have. Transfers have hit the school hard, and it was not and is not easy to watch Dragons go to other teams and often boost those squads. This is not a brand new problem, but obviously with the clown show that was the previous offseason, last year was by far the worst. Numbers are crucial and something that has been bleeding for the last decade.

 

I could go on with any number of needs given where they are, but the last one I'll note is the traditional - hit the weight room with a vengeance. And practice till you can't anymore. They may not win a game next year either, but I believe they can be more competitive. And who knows, stick around in a game, anything can happen. Especially if they can score in the first quarter, which they did not do all season.

The 2016 Warren Central Dragons season will go down as the most tumultuous that I have ever witnessed. As difficult as it must have been for all involved, the fact that they did complete the varsity schedule has to be counted as a victory. With all the sharks circling looking to pick off a stray player, I am hopeful Coach Taylor can establish more of a foothold this season from the drinking out of a firehose drill he experienced last season!

The Dragons were not a very good football team in 2016 but they played their tails off. They got better and it was evident they were being taught. A lot can be learned about coaching by observing how a team lines up pre-snap. The Dragons knew where they were supposed to be. That's a good sign.

Is that not something that had happened in the past or was it just something that they developed into later in the season compared to the start?

It was not comparison it was an observation. A lot of times when a team is not very good it shows in everything they do. In the case of WC in 2017 it was youth and inexperience. They knew what to do but were simply over matched a most positions.
