BGP Girls 2016-17 Week 5 Top 20

Featured Replies

Ryle has wins over Mason, Sacred Heart, Eastern and Murray. That earns them a top 20 ranking.

I went back and looked....Campbell Co. started the year ranked #18. Lost 3 out of the first 5 (two of them to unranked at the time teams) and dropped out of the rankings. Since that time the only quality win they have is against Ryle (which I guess had Scherr just coming off injury).

Campbell has played some other ranked opponents close and is clearly a quality team. BUT they don't have the wins over those quality opponents yet. Like I said earlier, it looks like their schedule stiffens up and they are going to get a chance to play their way in. Time will tell.

You're asking who has Campbell beaten so I was asking who has GRC, Highlands, and Holmes beaten? Some of the teams on the list haven't played as many quality opponents as Campbell nor have they beaten more quality opponents than Campbell. Highlands best win...Conner? GRC's best win...Highlands? It seems like the BGP poll is penalizing Campbell for playing and losing close games to three top 10 teams.

Rankings are for water cooler talk.

As for me, I applaud JJ for posting these. Same for anyone else who steps up to the plate (the free-throw line?) to post rankings and take the heat.

You make a valid point about some of those other teams strength of schedule. Although I would argue that Holmes/Highland/Conner have slightly better resumes then Campbell at this point. Like I said early, Campbell started in the top 20 and then lost 3 of 5 to begin the year (albeit to quality opponents). The Camels play several teams ranked ahead of them in Jan/Feb so they are going to have plenty of chances to prove they are deserving.

Rankings are fine.....but when people start whining over where this team is and who they should be ahead of and behind....it makes absolutely no difference where you are ranked. Maybe someone can clarify.......but I dont think they are used for LIT seedings or anything. For boys, that is a computer generated pick based on record, strength of schedule, with a few extra measures thrown in. For girls, it is based alot on what you did year before, record up to January of current season, and strength of schedule. Someone that knows tell me if I am wrong on this?

You are free to discuss whatever you want to on the board, as am I. Just know that the rankings mean ABSOLUTELY NOTHING when it is all said and done!

LIT uses Lit Ratings to determine the field and seeding. At least that's my understanding.

which are a computer generated number based on wins, losses, strength of schedule....has nothing to do with personal rankings.

First, no team that's 0-30 will win a championship. Has a .500 team ever even won?

Second, rankings do matter in seeding for things like the LIT tourney. All ages, sports use them. Should the AP college poll and USA Today poll be thrown out? Waste of time?

Third, it's about discussion, that's the whole point of this forum. So the more appropriate question is, Why are you on this forum if you don't want to discuss how the teams stack up vs each other?

I don't think a team will ever win state title with .500 record. But interesting in 2006 Henderson enter district play just 13-11 lost in district finals to union then went to regions first round beat top 5 Christain County 25-4 record then went on to win championship vs union on their home court. Went to state beat Marshall 25-7 and Etown 27-7. Then in final four lost to state champs Lex Catholic by just 13pts which was their closet game in state tournament. So records and rankings don't always mean much but they are fun to talk about and fun to learn about teams across the state.

Mercy is 9-8 and are ranked # 8 by LIT ratings this week.

I believe that means in Louisville schools. Then their are 4 ranked teams out of state. Because Henderson is 3rd in out of state teams they sure ain't number 3 in state. Lol

But I believe Mercy is 8-3 in ky games and if they only count those then I could see top ten.

Pretty sure (but not positive) that's how they do it. that's why it often takes so long in football for a team (like Trinity, for example) that plays several early OOS games to get ranked.
