Apollo 20

Nice win tonight for Apollo. They are really playing hard for Coach Barker right now, getting nice contributions from everyone they play. I thought their defense won them the game tonight. Zach Hopewell continues to be impressive as he averaged about 20ppg through the 3 game tournament. I thought NewCath would really hurt Apollo with their size, but Apollo's zone made it hard for them to get the ball inside. Eventually the athleticism of Apollo offensively forced NewCath to go to a smaller lineup and I think that really favored Apollo. That's 11 straight wins, including two holiday tournament championships for the Eagles. Ive been impressed with them.

About time for NCC to round into post-football shape.

What is wrong with NCC??

 

Nothing. This is the first time in a looooong time that bball stars played football. It is going to take a bit to get it going. Not to mention losing Weyer isn't easy to replace. Finally, a new head coach learning the ropes. They will be fine. The players will get it going, and Collopy will have them prepped for the Regional.

Apollo is playing very well. Ive been impressed. Right now they do appear to be the best team in the region, but come tournament time I expect it will be pretty wide open. Everyone on the team seems to know their role and execute it pretty well, plus they have a legit star player in Zach Hopewell. Seems like when the chips are down, he takes over. Not a lot of teams in the region have a guy like that.

 

As for NewCath, just watching them vs Oldham County I thought they would handle Apollo. Lukens and Wurtz are two real solid big guys and Moeves and Hall are real good guards. For some reason, they went away from the bigs in the 2nd half and it cost them, IMO. They look like they have the makings of a very strong team, but are still putting things together.
