Michelle Obama: Why I am helping Trump

Featured Replies

(CNN)While Michelle Obama was a harsh critic of Donald Trump on the campaign trail, the first lady says in an interview that she is supportive of the country's incoming new leader.

"The words that we say moving forward -- all of us, it matters, which is one of the reasons Barack and I are so supportive of this transition, because no matter how we felt going into it, it is important for the health of this nation that we support the commander-in-chief," she told Oprah Winfrey in an interview that aired Monday on CBS. "Wasn't done when my husband took office but we're going high and this is what's best for the country."

Her comments in her Oprah interview sure didn't make it seem like she's taking the high road. :idunno:

And I have a ton of respect and admiration for the First Lady.

Have you seen the whole interview or just the snippets that are making the rounds?

This was from the same interview.

I have not watched it in it's entirety, no.

Regardless of what else she said in the interview, her comments about having no hope now are the opposite of taking the high road.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that GWB went out of his way to ensure that Obama had a smooth transition into the White House and the Presidency. I thought I even remember something being written about it...how he didn't have it when he (GWB) came in, so he was going to make sure of it when he left. Am I completely mis-remembering this?!?

So, for her to say it wasn't done when her husband took office makes me want to disregard anything else she may have to say about this.

Well we will see how supportive they are when they start criticizing him.

He did, and in the interview she says that because GWB and Laura set such an example, she and President Obama have the knowledge of what to do to do the same. She gives credit where credit is due.

It's all about context. There was a LOT in that interview.

That kind of flies in the face of her comment, " "Wasn't done when my husband took office but we're going high and this is what's best for the country." doesn't it?

Proves what I was thinking. No matter who is the president the other side will not give them credit for almost anything. My work here is done! :thumb:

So, then what is the "Wasn't done when my husband took office but we're going high and this is what's best for the country." referring to? Public opinion? The other side of the aisle?

It seemed like it was a comparison of Presidential treatment, to me. Sorry, if I took it the wrong way.

Michelle Obama did say that the Bush family helped them in transition and was helped.

But only time will tell how long she sticks to these words.

I don't know where she said that.

I don't know where she said that.

I just took it from the original post, which looks like CNN quoted her from the Oprah interview.
