Bardstown/Louisville Holy Cross Predictions

Featured Replies

This should be a war over on Dixie Highway. One of the top 2 or 3 regular season Class A games this year. 16-7 Bardstown last year. Both teams are 4-0 and playing very well. I'll reserve my comments until I hear what someone else says.

As much as I hate to I am going to have to pick Holy Cross to win. I think it will be close. Defense will win this game.

Holy cross 27

Bardstown 21

Assuming both teams are healthy, I'm taking Bardstown in a close one ... 16-14, maybe.

Holy cross 27

Bardstown 21

Coach B, c'mon, a private!!!:D

Seriously, I think it will be difficult for HC to score 27 against Bardstown and vice versa.

This game can be heard live on the web at http://www.1320wbrt.com. Friday night, pre-game begins at 7:00 p.m., kickoff at 7:30 p.m. I think Holy Cross may also have a live-streaming audio website, but I do not know the address. I would appreciate some folks listening and letting me know what they think.

Also, if anyone has a Holy Cross roster and list of starters, I would appreciate if someone could post it here.

I think Holy Cross gets it done this year...HC 21 B'town 14

Bardstown's 1st team "D" has yet to surrender a point this year and has 2 INT's for TD's. What HC has in size and strength, B-Town has in team "D" speed to the ball.

As we saw last year, Bardstown is vulnerable against a team with size and strength. But I also see Bardstown as the better team, having fared better against a tougher schedule that Holy Cross has faced so far.

Bardstown - 28

Holy Cross - 25

I will be pulling for the tigers. Not sure if the have the depth this season to pull it off.

They are vulnerable.

However, if you will recall, early in the 4th Qrtr. of the semi-state game, Bardstown started to throw the hitch pass to Graves at WR, they had great success getting him one on one and letting him use his moves to get first downs. When Mayfield got out there, Bardstown started throwing to Paul Downs (using him as a TE) down the middle and had some big gainers. They also got intercepted once. They were able to close the gap on the score and at least make it respectable.

This year, Graves is better, the QB is a much better thrower, and we have more talent at TE. I could see this formula being used more successfully against Holy Cross. And that is conceding that Holy Cross' lineman can move as well as Mayfield did last year, which I'm not sure about.

I was talking about Bardstown's defense, which never had an answer for Mayfield's power running game.

That's for sure.

Mayfield came out with extremely wide splits. The only answer I have ever known to extremely wide splits is to pinch tackles and stunt regularly. We were doing that, and actually getting through at times, but simply could not make one on one tackles.

HC tried that against us last year at our place. It really didn't work. Our #44 (remember him?) Melvin Scott was out and being replaced by #42 Rashaun Phillips, who was a freshmen last year. Rashaun is a sophomore now and better than ever.
