May as well get this thread going to add to the rest of them. If he is this active as PEOTUS then this next year will be a wild ride.

He's made it pretty clear that he was going to test China from Day 1. I'm a little surprised he's doing it on Day -40, but it's not unexpected.

 

Doing this little dance has allowed China to save a little face with Taiwan in recent decades allowing us to do other things in the region.

 

Now that he's made clear he's killing TPP, essentially driving our allies in the region toward China on trade, I'll be very curious to see what his antagonism gets us.

Won't China take their anger out on Taiwan first? Taiwan was quick to come out and say that Trump called them and that they didn't call him. Seems like they want the record clear that they are still playing by the rules established long ago between the US, Taiwan and China. Taiwan doesn't want those problems is how I am seeing it. Am I on the right track?

I don't think he's setting any kind of precedent, but he's creating issues where there were none out of sheer carelessness.

 

His call with Shariff was the usual back-slapping "you're a great guy" schtick he does, but Pakistan took it at as a statement of renewed U.S. support and India took Trump's "can't wait to work together" platitudes as an indication the U.S. would help settle the Kashmir dispute in Pakistan's favor.

 

Im sure this can be smoothed over, but these are also nuclear powers he's talking loose with. That world leaders' first lesson from our new president is not to listen to what he says is not comforting.

Cuba isn't under another super power's control. That's the part everyone is puckering about.

He did tweet that and by all accounts he lied about that. Unless for some reason Taiwan has decided to disobey a decades long pact there is absolutely no reason at all for them to call Trump to wish him congratulations. They know where they sit in today's world. China would crush them like a bug if they dared get so bold.

He is also trying to get a hotel approved in Taiwan.
