GoPro Buying Advice?

Featured Replies

Wife and I are looking to get a GoPro in the next week or so.

We've decided we want to capture the birth of our child and have heard from numerous people who have done so that GoPro is the way to go.

Unfortunately, we know NOTHING about the different models, options, accessories, etc.

Major questions:

What's the best bang for our buck? We aren't looking to get the top of the line model, but we don't want to go super cheap either.

What kind of video life do they have? Can it capture 1 hour of video? 3? 10? :idunno:

In addition to the actual camera itself, what accessories will we need to make sure we have?

I'm looking at one too! Any advice is appreciated !

I have the gopro 3+ black and really still learning to use it. My daughter uses to record her horse competitions from her helmet. It is very easy to download straight to your phone/computer and post to social media if you want. You can use your phone to make changes to settings and to view video. I keep 3 batteries charged and 1 battery lasts between an hour and two. Depending on what setting you are recording and how big of memory card you are using will determine how much you can record. I have a 64 gb card and probably have 3-4 hours of video saved on it.

Here is one of the videos we took from her horse show.

If your goal is to just film birth, you definitely do not need top of the line. The 3+ I have is really designed for editing and putting films together. The features on it are designed to do slo mo and time lapse. There are a lot of features I have never used or played around with at all.

Kinda my thoughts. I'm sure we'll end up using it for other things, but they'll probably be just a few times a year (vacations, etc).

The one we've been looking at is the Hero Session, which looks like it is the most base level of the models that they're currently producing.

As long as the OB isn't wearing one for a POV shot.
