November 14, 20169 yr While I can't speak for anyone else, I did in fact win my school's title as a 5th-grader, beating out middle-schoolers for the crown. Got to go to the big Scripps-Howard event in Cincy that aired on (I think) Channel 9. Made it through a couple rounds but then got tripped up on "opiate." That's quite the accomplishment for a 5th grader Jim. I remember that Scripps-Howard Bee was a big deal even I was a kid.

November 14, 20169 yr Why were you doing opiates in the 5th grade? I was a fifth-grader, so I guess that's why I couldn't spell it. Not sure I'd ever heard of the word at that point in my life.
November 14, 20169 yr I'm OK with typo's. It is just certain words or the way in which they are used that drives me nuts. "Seen" is one that comes to mind.
