November 12, 20169 yr I did listen to an interview with the new Speaker, and I felt like he seemed to be a reasonable sort of fellow. Kept talking about policies to make Kentucky the manufacturing hub of the US. It was one interview, but....I am not going to write off our future. But gaming is definitely out, as far as I can tell. I am concerned about putting all our eggs in the manufacturing bucket. I feel like that's why we've lost so many jobs to begin with. I feel it would be better to try to attract a more diverse array of job types to our state. Jeff Hoover is an outstanding man, from all I know of him from common friends he is exactly the kind of guy you want in this type of position. No huge ego, pettiness or hidden agendas with him, he's a straight shooter and a good honest Christian man.
November 12, 20169 yr Should? Why? Nobody wants to be TOLD how they should vote. Methinks this was a big part of why she lost. Should meaning voters who have historically voted Democrat. Those white middle class voters who have rare if ever voted for a Republican but voted for Trump. I know a lot of them.
November 12, 20169 yr We've missed the boat (pun intended) on gaming so time to move on. I really hope the put a great deal of their efforts into actually correcting the problems with the pension system rather then band-aids and kicking the can down the road as previous administrations have done. Honor the promises made to existing and retired state workers but move all new hires to a 401K type plan. I hope they actually do something to address the very real issues with education in KY and that discussion has to include Charter schools ad school vouchers. They have to realize what's good for Jefferson County is probably not good for Grayson County. I hope that the new minority party is not totally shunned and pushed to irrelevance in much the way the old minority party was. A good idea is a good idea regardless of who has it.
