Anyone ever use RockAuto online vehicle parts supplier?

Featured Replies

I used it to get something small not too long ago...and man is there a difference for what you can get most parts on line at this site compared to going to Auto Zone, Napa, etc.

A while back I busted out a head light on an old Ford Contour I had. Went to the local parts shops, all wanted $100 + for the part. That's the first time I went on line and researched prices on RockAuto. They had several manufactures to pick from, starting with a "universal" fit brand that was dirt cheap, about $18.00, all the way up to some special ones with more highly reflective coatings, etc. for about $50.00 or so, and everything in between. The OEM brand I believe was about $29.00. Point being, had I bought a head light (I ended up selling the car before I fixed it) it would have saved me a BUNCH of money. Did the same with ball joints and upper/lower control arms for my truck...way cheaper than the parts stores. The first time I actually used it was a few months ago I bought a rear tail light assembly for my Ford Ranger...can't remember the price exactly but I paid a fraction of what the local parts stores wanted. It fit perfectly and looks great.

So my girlfriends daughter has burned up the clutch in her little Nissan Sentra and texted me the other day asking for me to buy a clutch kit. She and her boyfriend had priced one at Advanced Auto for $381. Well I just went online to RockAuto to look at prices...the OEM brand was $135.00. With shipping I just paid less than $145.00. If you do some of your own auto repair, or even if you take it to someone but need parts, I would suggest looking at RockAuto and compare prices. You might just save quite a bit of money.

Oh no, you went there. @UKMustangFan is not going to be happy with you.

I shop all of them(KOI, AA, AZ, O'R) when working on my cars/trucks. I recently needed a transfer case and found the best deal on Ebay.

:lol2: It's hard to compete with places like that on pricing.

I'd suggest shopping local though, you know help out the little guys. :D

Auto Zone, Advance Auto, NAPA...those aren't little guys. I do go there and buy a quart of oil, car cleaning supplies, a windshield wiper, spark plugs, battery, etc. I have an Auto Zone with walking distance of my house. But the difference between paying $145.00 compared to almost $400? Nope, can't do that. Had it been $30-40.00 difference for the clutch kit, maybe, especially if they had the part in stock or could get it to me the next day, which they usually can. But paying more than twice the cost for something of that expense, I just can't pull that trigger.

As for "the little guys"...I will use the downtown area in Lawrenceburg where I live as an example. We have had a ton of revitalization and new, local business move into our downtown area, gift shops, restaurants, etc. Just had a new coffee shop open Tuesday and I went in this morning to get a coffee and muffin. Would much rather give them my business than, say Starbucks for example. And I have been making sure to support our new local businesses in the hope that they can make it and maintain a strong downtown presence. I enjoy shopping local and actually know personally a few of the owners.

Anderson County.

Anderson County.

Looks like our closest location to you is in Frankfort.

While we won't be as cheap as the online guys, we're going to be more reasonable than the Advanced Auto, and Auto Zones of the world. :D

I may have to report you for this one....

I guess you work for a competitor? :lol2:

I purchased a lower control arm for my Maxima from 1aauto.com several years back and I will likely never buy another part from a parts store again. Have bought several from them since.
