Oldbird Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 Johnson Central is the new leader in The Independent Super Seven high school football poll. 1. Johnson Central 2. Raceland 3. Ashland 4. Russell 5. Boyd County 6. Greenup County 7. West Carter I know nothing about the two (2) out of state schools they play, but I think JC could run the table and it still might not be real clear how good they are.

True... The only indicators for JC will be the games with Ashland, and a (somewhat) resurgent Mason Co.. And those two games don't come until the last two of the regular season. Central is gonna have a rough time getting ready for tourney time. Still, I hope they do well. It's been far too long that a big-school (3A or 4A) team from the Johnson, Floyd, Martin, and Pike Co. area was a real contender. You have to go back a number of year with the 3A Belfry teams, and one team a few years ago with 3A Sheldon Clark. :bunny:

JC has a real good football team as do the others that are listed but I wouldn't put to much emphasis on this poll. It does give you an inidcation of how the programs are progressing and is a good read for our local fans.
xyience Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 JC's best football teams have all been in the past 6 years. The 2000 team that went 11-1. Last years team that went 8-3 and hopefully this years team will play 13 or 14 games. I agree with alot of you in saying that JC will only be tested in the last 2 games of the season. Being ranked above the defending class 2A state champs is kinda surprising to me. Hopefully JC will live up to the rankings no matter what poll it is, and have the best season and team in the history of JC football.

JC Alumni 76 Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 Why a rough time? I think that he means the lack of quality opponents is going to hurt JC come playoff team when just about everyone is a quality opponent. JC's schedule does look somewhat weak but is starting to look a little better as the season progress. In JC's first game against North Laurel, JC's quick TD i believe took the heart out of NL. North Laurel last week got its first win, a 17-0 shut out over Leslie Co. who looks to be a descent Class 2A team. NL is better than there record indicates and i think that they will show that in the upcoming weeks. In JC's next game against South Point, the Eagles lead and never looked back as they coasted to a 35-7 win. This is the only game that the JC starting D has given up a touchdown in. Many thought South Point was a weak Ohio team but last week beat a Wheelersburg, Ohio team 21-14 that just the week before was beaten by a perenial powerhouse Ironton on a last second FG. I know comparing scores arent a great indicator but do hold some validity to them. I think South Point as well is going to be another solid team by years end. Now as far as Logan, WV goes, they made the playoffs last year in WV system which only allows the top 16 teams in and i believe Logan was the #13 seed. This win to me is weaken than the other two although i still believe Logan will make WV playoffs again, which to me doesnt say much about how good of a football team you are. But i did think they had a very impressive QB which if conditions had been better would have had a better game than he did. The thing that worries me more than anything is that so far they havent had a close game. I honestly believe that JC's defense is one of the better in the state and can hold alot of teams to low # and low scores. But the fact that they are blowing teams out and arent being tested allows for that overconfidence factor to slip in and when it does it isnt good especially if its during the playoffs when its due or die. This in my opinion this what got JC last year against Madison Southern and i hope it doesnt happen again. I truely believe that this is one of the top teams in Class 3A this year but it is JC chance to prove it and not talk it. Lets all hope that JC can put its playoff troubles behind it and march on forward to where we all want to be.:thumb:
chicken hearted eagle Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 I am a JCHS fan and all I can say is that the kids and fans don't need to get crazy about this ranking. It is nice to be ranked but sucess isn't measured by polls, sucess is measured in the post season. I for one would rather see the EAGLES #1 when the playoffs are over myself.

xyience Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 The olny ranking that JC should worry about is ending up #1 after the 3A state tournament game is over.
Blue Blazer Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 The olny ranking that JC should worry about is ending up #1 after the 3A state tournament game is over. You are right this poll is meaningless along with the AP Rankings the only thing that really matters is the four winners the first weekend in December! It is hard to compare these teams when really none of them play.
