MountainThunder Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 Western improves to 2-0 showing that their ranking in the AP at #3 seems pretty accurate!
Jim Schue Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 They're very legit. I'd be curious to know some details on this one. I missed the highlights on WYMT.
Flash Posted September 3, 2006 Posted September 3, 2006 They're very legit. I'd be curious to know some details on this one. I missed the highlights on WYMT. Western has a couple of top notch players and the defense hits hard. But 5 turnovers in the first half and Breathitt giving up two 80 yard TD runs back to back, in the last seconds of the first half and Western's first posession in the 3rd because of missed tackles at he line of scrimage sealed their fate.

Western was definately the better team and their superior speed and experience was evident. The two run backs were the biggest factor along with their returning 15 Seniors compared to Breathitt's 5 of which only 4 played. I don't know about Powell Valley but IMO, Western will be the toughest team the Bobcats will face during the season. For a bunch of pre-dominantly freshmen and sophomores that made a whole lot of mistakes which the film will point out for them, I believe they have improved greatly over last year and will improve even more because of this tough game.:thumb:
depend-on-me Posted September 3, 2006 Posted September 3, 2006 Even though the score shows blowout, from what i saw this game was alot closer than it appears. Breathitt shot themselves in the foot with some key turnovers early in the game(the game had the potential to be Breathitt 21-0, before Western got on the scoreboard) Much to the credit of Western they stood tough and proved that they are exactly what people say they are. Looking at the bright side for Breathitt they held tough through the first half with the #3 team in 2A. Their pre-district schedule isn't the easiest either. In my opinion this team could be very tough by seasons end, and at this point I believe the favorites to win district. I'm interested to see how this team bounces back from this lose.
southeast_bell Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 I don't know about Powell Valley Powell Valley is 1-1 ,They lost last week to TN 3A Seymour 38-7. Breathitt County should beat P.V.
5wide Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 The simple answer to this game is that Western had too much speed for Breathitt. It is accurate to say that Breathitt really hurt themselves with the turnovers and missed tackles, but in the end, I think Western's speed was the deciding factor. Breathitt has such a young team, those mistakes, while frustrating, are to be expected sometimes. With some more experience and maturity, Breathitt has a chance to be a title contender in the next 2 or 3 years (now that Highlands officially moved to Class 5A  ....Thanks 'Birds). The Bobcats look like that have some pretty good athletes at receiver...they just need to mature a little more. And hopefully Jade Haddix will be as good as advertised. Despite losing by 20, I was encourage by what I saw. Breathitt should have a pretty solid season this year, but the future is what I'm excited about.
