Final.

Not a lot you can say about this one. The Tigers did what they wanted. There was a running clock halfway through the second quarter. The JV played the entire second half.

Aiden Justice 2 TD's

James Davis 2 TD's

Trevor Soward ran for one and caught one from Brayden Burch.

Logan Castleman caught a TD pass from Burch.

Dylan Doverspike ran for 2 TD's for the second team.

Daniel Mescher kicked extra points after all the varsity TD's.

Doverspike kicked one for the second team.

The Tigers did not attempt an extra point after the last TD.

Newport players played hard all night and had a couple nice plays. The Wildcats ran an interesting 2 point conversion from the formation where most of the team lines up way to the left leaving only the center, QB and RB in the middle. Center did a shotgun snap, QB and RB went right like an option then the QB threw the ball to the center who was eligible and caught a pass for 2 points.

Newport may not have got it done on the field tonight but they have got it done in the classroom. State test scores from the spring were released this week. For the first time Newport has reached the status of a Proficient High School, and just over 2 points from being rated as Distinguished. Pretty impressive considering 6 years ago Newport's scores were the lowest in the state. Congrats to both schools on the win!

I am surprised more teams don't try that play occasionally.

It always works in flag football...

Our kids battled and played hard until the end of the game literally. As for the 2 point conversion, it's different and pretty tough to defend. Beechwood did as they should have. As for the proficient recognition, that's HUGE on so many levels. Time to get ready for Lloyd.
