MountainThunder Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 Leslie is 2-0, N Laurel is 0-2. However, the Jags have lost to 2 very tough opponents, have several new players and are beginning to show some offensive improvements (major improvements over the first game). The Jags lost a heartbreaker at Leslie Co last season and a drive ending holding call ended the momentum they had built up. I think they pull the upset and get a much needed win. The Jags had over 200 yards passing against Leslie last year in the comeback effort and with Wardrup beginning to show he gaining confidence in the offense, the emergence of Maggard as a running threat and the possibility of getting Asher back (who had a big game against Leslie last year as a WR), the Jags get back on track this week. But to do so, they better find a way to stop Hubbard and Howard, 2 very dangerous weapons for the Eagles. The past few years, these teams have split. NL won in 2004 at CVB 4 in an OT thriller and Leslie won last year when they held off an excellent 2nd half effort by the Jags to get the win. Both teams have a lot of respect for the other one, but the Jags need this win much worse than the Eagles. N Laurel 21 Leslie Co 20
CatchMeIfYouCan Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 Who are the top players for NL this season? I know Howard & Hubbard are Leslie's but what about NL? Does the Brandenberg (sp?) kid play?

The frosh QB is really showing signs of a great future for NL and the players seem to respond to him. Cam Cornett has also really stepped up his play as a WR.

mountainmutt Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 North has not looked good but, Leslie is the the weakest team they faced. North should win this one in an ugly smasthmouth game. NL 20 Leslie 16
JC Alumni 76 Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 Im going to give North Laurel the edge in this one but not by much. North Laurel: 21 Leslie Co.: 19
Cat_n_the_Hat Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 IMO a quarterback that can drop back and throw or take off running is the hardest thing to defend in football,Leslie has one in Howard..Long night for the Jags... LC-36 NL-16

LC-36 NL-16 I worry more about Howard running. NL's pass defense has been a very pleasant surprise so far this season. When he gets in the open field, he is hard to bring down and he can find a seam in a heartbeat. On the other side, in the 2nd half of last year's game, Leslie had trouble handling NL's QB who ran better than he threw and I think he had just under 250 yards against them. This year, the NL QB can run pretty well, especially for a frosh, is bigger at around 6' and has a stronger arm (IMHO). I look for Maggard and Wardrup to have big games for NL. Without Asher, they have to. I still think that NL pulls this one out. Should be a good game.
