Congrats, Ryle!

Congrats to Ryle. They look like the real deal. 11-2-2, only two losses to Anderson and Moeller. 11 clean sheets and only 2 goals conceded to KY teams (1 to Henry Clay and 1 to St. Henry).

Who scored for Ryle? How did CovCath do?

A poor offensive showing by CCH, although they did have 2 off the post. Ryle scored in the first half on a ball just flipped up high that came down about 7-8 yards in front of the CCH goal. CCH keeper froze and the defender couldn't clear it and it was poked in by Ryle. Second Ryle goal came via PK. Ryle free kick from about 35 yards floated in front of the CCH goal. CCH keeper comes to play the ball and collides with a Ryle player and somehow a PK is given. One of the most bizarre calls I've seen in a long time. In the end, if you can't score you won't be around long come postseason.

How did CovCath JV fare against Ryle?

I will second what groinpull said about the PK not sure what the call could have been. Keeper was coming out to play a ball, Ryle player was backing up and jumped backed to try and play the ball. Ryle player was the one who caused the contact in my option. With that being said here is my take on the game, pretty evenly matched the score line should have been 1-0 Ryle. My take was that neither team really out possessed or dominated the game. I felt Ryle did create more chances but CCH did have a few good looks. If CCH cant start to find the back of the net i don't think their defense can hold strong offensive teams to just one goal. This was my first game of season and out side of a very questionable PK call I thought it was a good game and either one of these teams could make it out of the 9th.

Final Ryle jv 3... Cov 0

Correct score but numerous varsity kids playing JV for Ryle. I was there for the JV game and afterwards when varsity was warming up I noticed that Ryle only had 12 field players on varsity. Thought that was odd until about half the JV joined them.

It's the worst call I've seen in 10 years.

Don't watch much soccer then do you?

Kidding of course. But based on the description it's hard to give any opinion.

Just from the descriptions though. If the keeper came out to play the ball but didn't and ended up colliding with an opponent I don't think the call can be that surprising.

Really if you didn't see it you shouldn't comment. It was that bad. CCH keeper goes up to punch it out and Ryle player backs into him and they both go down. 100 percent of the time if a call is made its against the offensive player. In the end it didn't matter but it was really poor.

I saw the pk call, it was an absolute horrible call. The officiating crew was in over their heads today. Center ref really struggled with foul recognition all game.

Typically HS game played between two good teams. Both did some good things and some not so good things. CCH as mentioned had two off the post and at least one just miss by inches. Ryle got a gift on the first one and the PK was Christmas comes early. But they were dangerous at times also. Should make for a very interesting 9th Region. One could argue there are 5 teams with a legit chance of winning it; Cooper, CCH, HHS, Ryle, and St Henry.

If you were at the game you should have noticed the ryle bench was full of injured. I saw one on crutches, one in an arm split, and one with a back brace. Parents stated they were our four varsity players, three who at one time started this year. Also, it appeared one f their starting defenders went out in first half, and never played again, hopefully he is okay. Could explain why so many JV guys are playing

Just catching up on my reading and based on some of the comments on here, I can't help but wonder if the Center was the same one that I saw on Thursday.

I blame a lot of the poor refereeing the HS teams must suffer through on the lack of enough good (qualified) referees. And when I say qualified I don't mean passing some 100 question book test, and then being thrown to the wolves. Referees should be assigned based on experience and performance. I heard the local referees association once did peer and coaches evaluations to help grade their members, is this still being done?

I counted the number of games the local referee association had to cover yesterday. I counted 4 boys and 5 girls varsity games plus the Boys Freshman regional, which were done by a 2 person system up to the final. Compared to a typical Monday/Wednesday (girls) or Tuesday/Thursday (boys) this is not a lot of games to cover. In most things in life we are graded on performance and rewarded accordingly. It would be nice to see the referees being assigned by performance/grading. Some incentive to do a better job (like in most things in life) has a positive impact on performance.
