With Coach Shope stepping down, who will land this job?

Will be interesting to see who gets this job. Was told interviews are going on currently, with last ones scheduled for Tuesday.

Any names being thrown around?

Several Mercer Asst. applied. Not sure if any will get it or not.

They are supposed to announce who got the job later today.

Was told from someone at Mercer that Adam Shartzer has been named the new Head Baseball Coach.

What a hire. Replace one of the best coaches in the state with someone with no experience and someone that nobody has ever heard of. You have to be joking right?

At some point Shope was "someone with no experience and someone that nobody has ever heard of" and look where that took him. Interesting to judge someone's coaching ability before you even give him an opportunity. I don't know how good of a coach he is, but I'm not going to assume he's terrible. Good luck Coach Shartzer.

Shope had just finished a college playing career where he played under one of the best coaches in the history of NAIA baseball. Also, Shope took over a doormat of a program and not one of the best in the state. No matter how you spin it, there had to have been better and more qualified candidates apply.

Interesting hire. Several other more experienced Coaches applied for job. Just have to wait and see how this one plays out. They do have a pretty talented group of seniors his year so that should help the new first year coach out.

It's his second year at Mercer. Was an assistant for boy's basketball and baseball last year. Think he came from the Bowling Green area.

Good guy that the kids should like. Definitely has big shoes to fill though. There are high expectations with mercer baseball every year.
