Here is the game summary. It will be brief because there weren't a lot of highlights in this game. It was a defensive battle.

 

The first half was both teams trying to run the ball and getting nowhere. I believe Beechwood had one first down in its first three possessions and Lloyd was only slightly better. Beechwood finally hit on a couple pass plays and got the ball down to the 10 yard line. They couldn't do anything from there and on the last play of the first half Daniel Mescher kicked a 22 yard field goal to give Beechwood a 3-0 lead.

 

Lloyd got the ball to start the second half on their own 20 after the Mescher kickoff went into the end zone. The Juggs had a nice 8 yard run on the first play and then the lightning forced a delay. About 30 minutes later, the game restarted. Lloyd went backwards on two plays and had to punt. Aiden Justice blocked the punt and the ball rolled out of bounds through the end zone for a safety. That gave Beechwood a 5-0 lead. On the kickoff after the safety, lightning struck on the field in the form of Logan Castleman. He found a seem made one nice cut and went 65 yards for the only touchdown of the night. Mescher's XP made it 12-0 with 10:30 to go in the third quarter.

 

From that point on, offensive ineptitude set in again. Lloyd had maybe three first downs till their last couple drives against prevent defense. I am not sure if Beechwood had 3 first downs. In the fourth quarter, Beechwood lined up and just ran clock. Everyone in the stadium knew what they were going to do. Lloyd just sent everyone and teed off. The Tigers are lucky none of their backs got hurt the way Lloyd players were sprinting untouched through the line and drilling them as soon as they got the handoff. But, Beechwood's defense was dominating Lloyd and the Tigers had the lead. The Tigers just kept running the ball up the middle against a stacked box and went 3 and out on their final four possessions. Their defense stuffed the Lloyd offense time after time, and the Tigers walked off the field with the win.

Lloyd proved they can stop the run but need work on the pass. I would like to see how many rushing yards Beechwood had.

For Lloyd fans who might be interested, I have now seen both Lloyd and Holy Cross. I see that game as dead even. The teams are very similar. That will be a very good game.

Is the other Lloyd QB named Runion? Which QB played against Beechwood last year? I remember the QB Beechwood faced last year impressed me and had a strong arm but he threw several interceptions.
