It was an interesting call but after watching the play. Pretty sure it was justified. Didn't really see the highlands bench explode in surprise over it either.

 

St Henry just didn't seem like they were able to build anything up from midfield. Highlands was looking a bit desperate at the end too, relying on kick ball to keep the attacks away. It worked though so I guess good for them.

 

Delay call technically correct. The GK - who'd just come into the game - adjusted both of his socks. I'm just used to seeing higher level referees give a warning.

 

Highlands needs to maintain more composure closing out a game with a lead over a quality opponent. Hopefully they get more practice soon.

What does the rule book say ? Does a delay follow a first warning by rule or courtesy ?

It's a courtesy definitely. Part of game management is communication with the players but he wanted to get his point across obviously.

I hear ya and with the past comments can see why it may be seen as that, but not guilty this time. Was just trying to see if it was one of the new ones enforcing the rules as is, vs with some discretion as experience sometimes provides....

He was younger but based on how he looked this clearly wasn't his first time out there or doing games of this caliber.

By reading this thread is sounds like a delay was clearly and obviously happening.

 

I wouldn't put this as an experience v less experience officiating situation.

 

It sounds as if the official accurately applied the correct ruling to the correct situation.

Similar to one player getting a yellow card in part due to numerous other teammates reoccurring fouling. I'm not an official but I believe there is something in the rule book that cover this.

HHS wasn't playing delay tactics. The GK held the ball for more than 6 seconds. Refs can give a warning or not before making the call... it's totally in their discretion. It's really not worth the ink it's gotten on here. I'm sorry I mentioned it.

I don't recall the warning given, at least on this play. I do remember seeing the keeper trying to adjust each sock and shinguard like 3 times a piece... As well as taking some time to get up after collecting the ball. All whole here was about 2 or 3 min left.

 

I have seen pics posted in the HS football forum by a Highlands fan. Great pictures. Perhaps the goalie was primping just in case that photographer was there. Seems like a legit reason to adjust his equipment until he gets it just right. I blame the ref in this case.
