westernky Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 Let's do a pre season top 8. Here's mine, let's see yours. 1. UHA- They've got the best 2 scorers in the region in Tandy and Tray Hollowell 2. Hopkinsville- The Tigers lost very little last season and they will be as fast as anyone in the state. 3. Christian County- The Colonels have a top 2 player in the region in Jaylen Sebree and some really nice pieces around him. They only lost 2 starters last year but one of them was Tyrik Edwards. 4. Caldwell County- Josh Wilkerson is probably the best player in the region not from the 8th district. The Tigers were young last year and return almost their entire team. 5. Henderson County- They're still not the power house they have been the past few years but they could rise in the rankings butI don't see them getting higher then 4th. 6. Lyon County- Coach Jeff Embry will have the Lyons in shape and dedicated to defense. 7. Madisonville North Hopkins- I know very little about the maroons this year. 8. Webster County- The Trojans seem to do more with less every year but theyve lost a lot the past couple years.
WKY Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 Very true wky. Anyone predicting anything other than an all 8th district region championship game is delusional. I think it's much more challenging to predict who will be the other 2 teams in the region semi-finals. I can see anyone filling those 2 spots except for the bottom tier teams - Crittenden County, Livingston Central, Hopkins County Central, Dawson Springs, Union County. My advice is take teams 4-9, put them in a hat and draw out 2 names - there's your other 2 region semi-final teams.
Greenvilleky Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 FYI- I did confirm tonight that James Nicholas will be able to play this year. There is worry about his knees though. I agree with everything above. I'd give county the advantage because they have the size. I'd put hoptown and UHA at 2/2a. After that? Doesn't matter
silo11 Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 IMO unless UHA learns how to play defense, they will be the 3rd best team in region 2. Last year they just gave up way too many points and just got blown out against the better teams. You can't give up 100+ points to Union County, Russellville, and McCracken County and expect to beat the good teams. The closest they came to beating a "quality" opponent was Murray and they lost by 10, everyone else was quite a bit more than that, some were really, really bad. I don't see Tandy and Hollowell averaging much more than they did last year (52.1 ppg) so I don't see how things change if neither one will play on the other end of the floor. I see County and Hoptown both 10-15 points better again this year.
Wireman Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 1) Hoptown 2) Christian county 3) duh 4) everyone else

Greenvilleky Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 Uha's defensive issues revolved around having one guy who shouldn't be out there and 3 freshman starters against very good competition. Their maturation and growth (physical and mental) will make a huge difference on the defensive end. But if still put county ahead of them and hoptown
westernky Posted August 23, 2016 Author Posted August 23, 2016 I do expect UHA to be much improved on defense, I know County will be really good but I just don't know how they will work without Tyrik Edwards. Either way it's a three horse race. If Haworth was coaching Heights I think they'd be the favorite.
The Scribe Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 Christian County is a deeper team than Hopkinsville at this point. This was obvious in the region tournament last year. If teams pack in a zone and make UHA shoot jumpers, they will not advance out of the district. Madisonville could be a team to watch even with the loss of Eaves and Singleton. Teams 5-10 you can throw in a bag, shake up, and draw out. I can't see Caldwell as a top five team with the loss of Anderson inside.
westernky Posted August 23, 2016 Author Posted August 23, 2016 I don't know much about Madisonvilles team but Caldwell will have the best player in that district by far in Wilkerson. Christian County quite possibly could be the best team in the region but IMHO they lost the most from last season so that's why I have to see them play first.

They are too good at penetrating to play zone.
flex169 Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 Hoptown has added some height and a couple of new pieces of shooting fire power. They are now ten deep there are going to be a terror on defensivem
