Prior to Benghazi, were there 13 attacks on embassies and 6

I'm guessing some kind of negligence or complacency would be found. I'm guessing if there wasn't negligence at some point no one would have ever lost their lives in embassy attacks. I could be naive though.

 

There would have to be.

 

Old news, but in retrospect these should have been looked at after about number 3 or 4. I guess it was small potatoes when we were fighting an illegitimate war.

Thanks for the additional info and detail Bluegrasscard. I can see the drawn out nine hour battle being a big difference that caused people to want to investigate how we handle a situation like that in the future.

 

I am not so sure about the other factors you listed being unique to Benghazi.

 

I wonder how many people are like me who are not aware that these types of attacks happen with such frequency.

 

I am sorry if I knee jerk on Benghazi. It seems clear 'the Principles' were not focused and did not follow through during an actual firefight. And I do feel the people were basically abandoned. And its not all on HRC. Brennan (whose people were the ones in harms way) seems to have gotten a complete pass on this.

 

But I think we can remember the rash of suicide bombing attempts after 9/11 and after the Afgan/Iraq wars started. People did go after our embassies - but that is why they had state of the art perimeters built around them and usually had armed Marines in the compound.

 

But suicide bombers using cars and trucks are going to get to the gate in an urban area. And there will be and were casualties. In reality, in those cases the system basically worked. It protected those inside. But those nearby at the gate or on the street would never have protection. It was not a failure of responsibility that caused the casualties or the attacks. Its just so different than not dispatching aid during an ongoing long attack.
