Disabled woman beaten bloody by TSA agents after becoming confused and afraid at security checkpoint

I'm sure they thought she was a terrorist. Unbelievable the lack of common sense that prevails in society. 18 yr old disabled cancer patients are not blowing themselves up. Can we "profile" the ones we know are a threat instead of harassing people like this young lady. Our PC will get us all killed.

Nothing to do with or with. It being PC, the TSA is in a sad state, and there is a large number of idiots among them that shouldn't be working. The TSA needs to be overhauled and the exceptance qualification beef to be changed as well.

Gotta be more than this. If you have a child or adult in your party that has issues, its real easy to get someone with the airport and tell them so they help you through security, seen it done many times. Doesnt say that they did that in the article but it is vague.

I was not there and it sounds like a situation that was handled very badly. I do feel for TSA agents though. Talk about a no win situation. If they interrogate someone who is later deemed as a non threat, they get ripped. If they miss someone who is a bad dude, they get ripped. They have to deal with millions of people a day and if one situation goes badly, the whole bunch of them is labeled as bad. Reminds me of what the police have to go through.

I have to agree with this. We don't know the whole story. The TSA agents would have no way of knowing her medical issues. We don't know how she presented herself to the agents. I am not saying the girl is at fault, I am just saying we just don't know.

 

One thing I have learned first hand is that when these things happen the victims and their families can say whatever they want to the press, but the accused cannot say anything.

They have a very serious and critical job. Mandhandling a half death, half blind, incoherent young lady doesn't make us safer. They question people like this to give the appearance that screens are impartial. They need to focus on the target. She was not a threat wether or not she had the ability to comply.

I agree it seems like it was not handled well. However, how do they know she is half deaf or half blind to begin with or that she has other physical/psychological issues? I wonder if the mother told them this before hand? Once the woman becomes hysterical and starts to run away screaming, I can see why they had to tackle her - again, it looks like it was botched but I blame the mother here somewhat as well. I wonder if this is the first time she has set off the metal detector in an airport?

If you will read other reports it states the mother was trying to tell the TSA agents about her daughters issues when she was pulled from line but the agents held her back and would not listen to the mother.

 

I see where this mother is coming from. When we brought our daughters home from Ethiopia, I had a similar, TSA wouldn't listen experience. One of my daughters was going through the scanner, I had informed the agent near me that she spoke very little English and that this was her first time in an airport. He was very helpful. But.... the agent on the other side of the scanner told my daughter to move along and she stood waiting for me. She started screaming at my daughter to move. I was trying to explain that she didn't understand but this agent just kept screaming at her. I went on through the scanner to get with my daughter and this agent just kept screaming at her. Thankfully, the other agent quickly came over and told her to chill. Those were his exact words.

 

I realize these agents have a thankless job. It would help immensely if many of them would just learn to listen.

Don't run from the police. Or the TSA.

Fell bad for the adult (she was 19) But the TSA has a job to do. Does not sound like they were aware of her situation.
