Wednesday Severe Weather Outlook

Featured Replies

It looks like our next best chance to see strong to severe storms will be Wednesday afternoon into the early evening hours. The best chance to see tornadoes looks to be between 5-8 pm EDT. I will be updating as we get closer.

I'll keep an eye on it. Let me know where you are and I'll set up a warning area for your outdoor activity for Wednesday evening.

We are moving things around now, we'll be in and around Somerset on Wednesday...with maybe a midday trip to Middlesboro (Weather dependent)

Warning areas are set for Somerset and Middlesboro.

nWo, I will be traveling back to Louisville from Lexington at that time. I'll be watching for your updates!

I'll be watching it for you. I already have warning areas set for those cities.

The Storm Prediction Center has parts of Kentucky/S. Indiana in a slight risk area for strong to severe storms Wednesday afternoon into the early evening hours. I expect this area to be expanded if the current model trends continue.

At this time, the models are showing the main tornado threat to be centered around the I-65 corridor. The best chance to see these possible tornadoes look to be in the S. Indiana/Louisville area. This is an increase from yesterday but let me caution everyone this could change because we are still three days away.

I'm watching it closely.

We WERE planning to shoot up I65 on Wednesday to Lafayette, IN to help in-laws put in a new pier. We will be watching for updates. Do things clear out on Thursday?

There maybe some showers and storms very early Thursday morning but it looks to clear out during the morning hours.

Tuesday morning update:

As I expected the Storm Prediction Center has raised most of Kentucky into a category 2 Slight Risk area for strong to severe storms for Wednesday. What is most concerning to me is this maybe an overnight event. The tornado threat seems to increase during the night time hours into the early morning hours on Thursday.

If you look at the top of the SPC map you can see that parts of N. Indiana is in a category 3 Enhanced Risk area for strong to severe storms. The NAM model is showing the greatest chance for tornadoes to be during the overnight hours. I will be keeping a close eye on this situation and will post an update later today. If the modeling trends continue I will more than likely go into a severe weather threat mode by Thursday morning.

Everyone should monitor this situation for Wednesday.

So it looks like it's time to turn the volume back up on the weather radio. I'll be at work and will have noaa radar and intellicast up and running to keep an eye out for doppler indicated twisters.

Be safe folks and thank you nWo for the heads up. :thumb:

Just a quick update. I'm kind of worried about the weather situation for late tomorrow afternoon into the night time hours. Especially in the Evansville/Owensboro area. The latest model updates show the conditions for the formation of supercell severe thunderstorms and the formation of tornadoes are increasing. Now this doesn't necessarily mean some will see them but it is a situation that needs to be watched closely.

If these conditions continue more than likely I'll go into Severe Weather Threat Mode.
