East Jessamine 10 Anderson County 9

Featured Replies

The end of this game was one for the umpire. You call an illegal pitch after a girl had already thrown 3 innings without question. The umpire at third makes a call for an illegal pitch that would have ended the game. If these are the best that we can find for the state tournament then we are hurting. This guy clearly made the game about him and not the girls. Not sure what region they where from but I hope something is done to this crew.

Maybe I'm the only one that is confused but...

You have the score as 8 to 9. Who won?

You're saying the 3rd base umpire called an illegal pitch. You say it "would have ended the game." Did it? If not, why? Details, please.

The scoreboard says East Jessamine 10 Anderson County 9. Is the scoreboard right or is 9 to 8 right?

East Jessamine plates 3 in the bottom of the 7th to defeat Anderson County, 10-9 #khsfp

It was 10-9 East Jessamine. If an illegal pitch wouldn't have been called then the game would've ended with Anderson on top 9-7. The umpire gave no explanation of what kind of illegal pitch to the coach just said it was illegal. Bad judgement call in my opinion

Title now correct, hopefully.

Title might be but the call wasn't.

I was impartially watching this game. Emotions were full tilt, on both sides because the score was back and forth, it was an elim game, it was hot, and the flow of the game was being interrupted by the constant "heat index breaks"(those are a whole different story I won't get into here).

The umpire was positioned behind 2nd base on the first base side (whichever slot that is). The pitcher, who I was told by an AC dad earlier in the inning, was a freshman, and not very big at all. I would have guessed her to be middle school age. He said she had been used during the season, as a safety valve for a senior pitcher that was/is injured, but had done good work in her role. She was leaping. Bottom line. I noticed it earlier in the inning, and on some pitches it was very bad.

The pitch in question that was called illegal, was done so without delay, at release. I clearly heard him yell out "illegal", and hold out his fist. The ball was struck, and hard lined to SS, who made the grab for what would have been the 3rd, and decisive out. After play resumed, The pitcher adjusted for about 5 or 6 pitches, but eventually started leaping badly again. EJ lined up a few hits that scored the needed runs to win.

Game over. Season over.

The timing was terrible. I agree. However, the call was correct, and could have called multiple times prior to and after the one illegal pitch call.

IPs are always controversial. My DD pitches, and her first PC stressed footwork. Those lessons carry through even today with her in college. Coaches and parents must stress the mechanical fundamentals, as long as it's part of the rules, IMO.

I really felt for the girl, though. She was slight of frame, young, and maybe 43' combined with the enormity of the moment was too much for her, I don't know. But it seemed like she was put in an impossible spot. I hope she sticks this one in her "lesson learned" pocket, and comes back stronger for the experience.

It was pretty bad to see how the adults acted afterwards, though. As parents and grandparents we have to behave better. It was very, very ugly in the minutes following the ending of that game. There is never, ever, ever a situation that warrants chasing after, threatening, cussing, etc. an umpire after a game.....IT'S A GAME, PEOPLE......OUR KIDS ARE WATCHING AND LEARNING FROM US!!!!!!

Peace out.

Your right it doesn't warrant chasing down officials but with that said when it's your daughters last game of her career and it ends like that than its bull crap. I watched that girl pitch and she was leaping the whole time so why would you wait to the last play of the game to call it unless you wanted the game to be about you and not the girls. That's what's bull about it!
