It is the easy answer. It is the responsibility of the coach to join.

Is there a website to check on that? The KABC has a great website for the basketball coaches that has a list of paid members.

 

Yes. There is. My point. Regardless of its the coaches responsibility to join or not, it's still hurts the kids and they have no control. If a kid is deserving and the their coach is just a lazy piece of crap and doesn't care, then that kid really has no chance. Is that how we really want the process to be??

 

And yes there is a website to check. But in my case there was no reason to check. I thought I had joined. And until I realized I didn't get the normal emails at the beginning of the season (which is unbelievably busy for a head coach btw) I had no reason the believe I wasn't a member. When I discovered it, I reached out. Then was told sorry about your luck!

 

Again, my point is. This helped me see the gap. Regardless of whatever reason a coach has for why whey didn't join, it's the players that suffer the consequences. To fix that gap, what harm is ther in allowing any coach to nominate a deserving player?? No one has answered that question for me. The members can vote, but all kids should be able to at least get on the ballot!! So tell me, what's the harm in allowing all coaches to nominate deserving players? Because if it's really about the kids, more than half the coaches in the state are not members. That's means that's half the kids really have not shot at all state recognition and that it means that the award really didn't even include all of the state!!!! Should call it "all less than half the state"? Being stupid there obviusly.

 

I said in a different thread. I have nothing against the coaches assiciation at all. I don't really care who runs the all state process or who is recognized as the owner. Today the coaches association just happens to be recognized as the owner. But Any owner or process that doesn't have a way to easily include all deserving kids (without having to pay dues, join and association, and bases the most honorable individual reward for a kid on whether their coach is a member) has a gap in the process.

 

I'm saying if we truly want to get it right and nominate all deserving kids to represent the state of KY as "all state players" then the process or owner should be changed to easily include every deserving kid.

 

And I don't care if this is how they do it in every sport in KY. It's still has a gap in the process that leaves the dependency of a deserving kid making all state on whether his or her coach signed up and paid their dues. Just beacuse "that's the way it's always been" doesn't means it's right.
