Central Hardin Bruins - 2015 Grade

Featured Replies

C

They opened their 2015 season with a 2 point loss to 3A Boyle County, then a 19 point loss to 4A state champs South Warren three weeks later, and a 36 point loss to 5A state champs Bowling Green two weeks after that. Then they get knocked out of the 6A finals by the eventual champs in 50-0 shutout fashion. With their shellacking by Male in the playoffs, losses to 3 teams from lower classes, and then the margin of defeat in two of those lower class losses to boot, the Bruins' 2015 season left a lot of room for improvement.

Do you agree with a C for Central Hardin? What grade do you give the Bruins?

I would give Central Hardin a B, they achieved a region championship for the first time in the program history. Tim Mattingly has taken them to the District and Region championship the last two years. Central Hardin went into McCracken County and their defense imposed its will on an offense with WR Zaire Hughes and QB Cash Jones. Male was unstoppable and they struggled with the elite teams in the state ( Bowling Green, South Warren, Boyle County).

I agree on their first regional championship being an achievement, but I was looking at the season as a snapshot rather than at the big picture (taking program history into account).

I also would definitely call the 2015 Boyle County team a good one, but fact is, they're a 3A team that lost in the 2nd round of the playoffs. C is an average grade. In my opinion, in order to be considered above average a 6A team has to be able to beat a 3A team - even if it's Boyle County.

Losing to Boyle County hurts Central Hardin a lot in this, and being trounced in the Bowling Green and South Warren games doesn't help. Still, the improvement over the course of the season leading to a victory over McCracken County makes me bump them to a C+.

First Regional Championship says a lot to me. I would go with B- as these grades above haven't taken any injuries into consideration. I realize they are part of the game, but in the BG game for instance they basically played without their top 2 RBs and top DLineman. Same thing against South. Yes, a 6A school should beat a 3 A school, but Boyle is hardly a light-weight 3A school. To go to McCracken County (who should have beaten CH in my opinion) and pull out a win for their first regional championship earned the B- for me. I know they were outclassed by Male; who wasn't outclassed by a team that was in the top 100 in the entire USA.
