I heard about this at a First Communion party over last weekend and have looked into more over this week.

 

After the match (which TSE won by the way) Matt, and his assistant, were approached by a mom from the NKYVC 11-1 team they were playing when this happened. Matt and his assistant both denied knowingly letting the libero serve more than once. How sad is that...either the fact that two coaches miss something as basic as this or that two adults would stand by and cheat in order to win.

 

Sandman you say it didn't matter in the long run and I am not sure what that means as TSE 12-1 went on to win the entire tournament, so it did matter.

 

And to blame the player? At 12's the players know exactly what is going on. I know the libero and her family and I don't think they would appreciate this being placed on her. She has been playing libero all season and knows the rules of the position. It was not a 'mistake' on her part and she certainly didn't act on her own. Keep in mind, TSE has two coaches on the bench....they both missed it? Not possible.

 

I am told the search is on for video and will be posted if found. Folks are pretty upset about this and TSE is tarnished. After all, Matt is one of their directors and this is what he advocates. I will never believe he got 'caught up in the heat of the moment', Matt has coached at all levels including a long stint at NDA and older ages at the now defunct Team Z. He is saying he can't keep track of a U12 libero because the match is too exciting for him. If you believe that, I got ocean front property in Arizona to sell you.

First and foremost.... A Parent From an Opposing Team Which Just Lost A Match Should Never Seek Out The Opposing Team's Coach... EVER!

 

The fact that this person did, and then is willing to report the conversation, makes every word suspect. It is not the parents job to protest. It is the coach and club directors. Parents should never speak to Refs, opposing coaches or players, or their own coaches and players, unless it is in a goodwill type of gesture.

 

I suspect that the Libero served for both middles, instead of just one, which in my mind is a reasonable mistake at 12 years old.

 

The coach watching the libero serve for a middle would not immediately cause alarm.

 

I also agree that 3 times in a match would/should have been caught immediately by either the opposing team's coach, or the officials.

 

At 12 years old, I agree that the coach should be sitting at the table with the players. I also think that at this stage of the season kids should know how to perform their reffing duties, such as libero tracking. If they don't it is the ref teams coaches fault.

 

If there is film, it should be known by the parents when this happened, and therefore a search shouldn't need to be conducted. And the video, seeing how it will be from the other side of the net, should easily show the coach's role in the incident.

 

From what I heard, the opposing team's coach (NKYVC) is the one who noticed the Libero serving out of turn. The Game stopped and a ruling was made. The Ref didn't go far enough back in issuing points from illegal serves in NKYVC's opinion. Not sure if its true, but I heard the reffing team didn't track the Libero correctly, so the up-official felt he couldn't prove any additional penalties were warranted.

 

The truth in this situation is that the work team failed in their duties, and I hate that. My daughter, and our club in general, have always taken pride in being a line judge, down ref, or table worker during an opponents match. I'm sure the people involved have learned a valuable life lesson.

 

It's quite easy to drag a person's name through the mud around here. Sometimes its warranted and sometimes not. In this case I'd like to see the film and decide for myself.

Athletes inadvertently serve out of rotation in high school matches & open level matches. Sometimes it is recognized and sometimes it isn't and play goes on. It is not something that happens every match, but happens with decent regularity. Most times it is not the coach of the team serving that recognizes the issue. Coaches also ask for lineup checks from time to time because athletes lose track of the current situation in a back and forth match.

 

It does not seem impossible that this happens inadvertently from time to time without bad intentions.

 

If coach instructed player to intentionally serve for multiple spots, I have a completely different opinion.

I find this thread to be amazing. We are talking about a club match between 12 year olds. I think the coach should be drawn and quartered, the refs should be hung in public and for that little libero, I'm thinking a life sentence should suffice.

Being that I created this thread, I don't feel it had anything to do with the age the girls but more so a coach that will do whatever it takes to win.

This thread should be moved by a Mod to the "club" sports section since it has nothing to do with HS Sports.

Please report the thread next time and it will get moved faster.
